Problem here is that while spirits are an even more useless gimmick than Brawl's stickers and Smash 4's power-ups, they do effect the game's meta. But, then again, people who care about a "balanced" game are what caused the series to crash in the first place.

These won't affect competitive play in the slightest, because I don't know if you've seen smash bros competitive but they turn off items and stupid stuff like customs. These are minor stat changes for a single player mode that's a badge-like system as if you were playing PM:TTYD. At least take a cursory glance at the game before calling p2w.

Challenges work the same way they do in Brawl, ie. they come with a few hammers for instant unlocks without having to actually complete the challenge. Thus, if you really want those stickers and don't have the save date/don't even feel like unlocking them normally, you can just smash em open with a hammer.
No grind involved. No pay involved. Not Pay 2 Win.

Absolutely not. First off, you can get these at random from the spirit board before playing story, so even if they technically give a 'competitive edge' early on, you can get them if you use that menu. Second off, their stat changes are garbage anyway. Extra stats for a few seconds after eating a food? Extra attack str before taking damage? Terrible buffs, and clearly not going to be useful in anything like a speedrun.

In addition, you get a random legendary when you start a game, so you will absolutely get something more useful to begin with. If they were giving you Spring Man or something early then I'd say that's a little unreasonable, but even then you can just grab him from the spirit board, so whatever. Additionally, you can buy them from the in-game shop with in-game currency that you get after any match, or you can find them on the story map, or you can get them from challenges in the hammer board like >>15821683 said, or you can just import a save data from the internet for lets go pikachu/evee if you really wanted to. There are plenty of ways to get around this, even if it were a big deal, which it isn't because again, they're terrible spirits.
