I started this game and had to agree to a EULA, check a list of DLC and connect to some network before I am even able to look at the start screen, then I start the game, after an awful cutscene I customize my character and watch another awful cutscene, now I have to watch an unskippable pseudo-cutscene and go through some scripted bullshit that I don't care about, was this supposed to be exciting? was this supposed to establish the mood or the setting? I don't see how it achieves any of that. Then I go through a scripted bullshit walkthrough mission for lobotomized retards that's constantly taking control away from me and has an annoying whore talking all the way through, then it's time for more cutscenes and the beloved walkin' and talkin', I can't even control the camera while I follow some retard through the camp, then it's more cutscenes and I'm bombarded with walls of text whenever I open any menu that the game forces me to open. Somewhere in all this I look back and realize that I've spent one fucking hour on this game and I still haven't been able to play it proper.
I don't know, something about this game just hit me really hard with the realization of what gaming has become, like an avalanche of pure disgust just fell on me all at once and I can't even look at the screen anymore without wanting to vomit. I got a nit pick I can't unsee from when I played on my friend's PS4. Gonna spoiler this shit, so if you can't unsee it either, you had your chance to avoid it their calves are too short, on all of them. Next time you find some NPCs are at a table/bench/stool, look and how low to the ground it is, and when they sit at/on it, look just how parallel to the ground their thighs are. Just some small personal nitpicks: no boob slider when I want a cup size or two larger or smaller; the female customization options are either muh realistic depiction or that moe ugly the nips coined; always having to connect to a server before you can play, and having to set a private room to "play offline, even though it's not an issue with a cracked copy; and the unbearable sequence to make a new character when I just want to kill big dinosaurs.

This game is not just a watered down version of one of the most unique series in gaming. It's criminally bad in its design. I think that a lift system that has two stops on the same story ten paces from each other should suffice to prove everyone involved in its design were too busy counting the strains of AIDS in their system to do any quality control, but if we're going to point out every retarded decision in this abortion, we're going to be here all day. Never mind the supposed waifu that looks like patient zero for a virus that causes birth defects in adults infused with the personality of only the most cringy subreddits. The gameplay being less fun than Hillary Clinton farting. The monster variety being one of the smallest since the PSP era. Ignore all that. Focus, rather, on the dire idea of this being the first game in the series for anyone. And then, of anyone being defensive enough of this gutted, shallow experience, that they would defend it, tooth and nail, on an anonymous imageboard. I cannot imagine anything more tragic than that. It's like going to a four star restaurant, getting a happy meal with cockroaches in it and no soda, and yelling to everyone on the street they can go fuck themselves for hating eating cockroaches. This game not only forces sentient entities to go against their dignity, but also robs them of ever playing what truly made Monster Hunter great, because they would rather spend the rest of their lives defending World (that they stopped playing long ago because, duh, only 30 large monsters) than even considering playing the actual franchise, which they now resent after antagonising actual fans for so long.
To put this in perspective, a friend of mine had the misfortune of knowing his little sister was savagely assassinated by a crazy ex boyfriend while drugging herself in a squat. He also played Monster Hunter World as his first MonHun. I would genuinely sooner offer condolences for the latter than for the former, knowing full well he would likely punch my head in for being so callous for human life. This is how much MHW sucks. Confirmed for not playing the game. I "played" for an hour well it was hour and a half but 30 minutes where spent on character creation looking for height, boob and weight sliders, none of which exist so I won't count that time and only then got the first quest, which, like everything else, is filled with stupid pace-breaking pop ups. STUPID GAIJIN KNOW STAMINA WHAT IS??!!!! FOLLOW SIGNS!!!!! GAIJIN KNOW HOW MOVE???. It's like one of those games that have tutorials for retards, but you're expected to switch help off, like in Divinity, Starsector or Pathfinder. It's even like the controls are hard, you automatically climb when facing a wall, it's not like there's a grab button. You spend an hour following pic related around running through a "CINEMATIC" sequence along a monster, there's lava and shit and your ship gets broken. Then you get taught how to run again through a forest, then you're taught again how to climb in case you've forgotten already. Then you run past a T-Rex looking motherfucker expect he can't actually hurt you because once you get close it enters the another cutscene.
Once you make it to town, there's more cutscenes, forced walking segments which wait for you to get in position if you move away so you have to stay near pic related and her epic reddit tier commentary. You get told where the shops are and the crafting sections, this segment takes a solid 7 minutes to complete and it's holding "W" the entire time. When you finally think you are free, every menu you enter in your inventory has a 2-4 page pop-up that requires several clicks to skip through. GEE I really didn't know headgear goes on heads, thanks for telling me. The first mission is fighting monsters that don't even attack you. I quit at this point because Hitman 2 finished torrenting, that game at least lets you skip the tutourial.

Take this from an idiot who bought the damn game on PC. MHW sucks. Nearly every single major change to the game exists to make things as easy for the player as possible. Fight a monster and collect its tracks enough times, and you'll always know where it is at any time, meaning you never need to learn their spawn or zone movement behaviors. Proper preparation is neither essential or even advantageous, anymore, because you can eat meals and access your main storage in the field. If you lose your meal buff by fainting, you can get it again in, at most, ten minutes. Fight two monsters at a time, and they'll deal more damage to each other than they will to you. I'm serious, this is the one MH game I didn't dread a second monster showing up, because I knew I could just run around while they both intentionally and unintentionally beat each other up. Even monsters that are supposed to work together, like Rathian and Rathalos, just get in each other's way more than they help one-another. Monsters will also go to sleep when you're in the same zone, and even if you're actively attacking it, something they didn't do in previous titles. Then you have all the environmental items and traps, which make it even less meaningful to be properly prepared for a hunt. You can move while drinking potions, and, even if you're hit, you'll still get some healing effect, depending at what point of the animation you got hit. The item your Palico starts with, once you have a few levels in it (which doesn't even take getting to high rank), heals you so often that you only need other healing if you really fucking suck. You only need a single piece of armor with a skill to proc it, now, and, despite what the MHW-dick suckers would have you believe, most of them have, at most, three levels of effect strength, if that. Set bonuses aren't all that important, either, and you only need four pieces of a set to activate them.
Separately, any single one of these changes wouldn't make the game all that much easier. But, as a whole package, they cause the game to require very little thought in your preparation and to massively forgive any mistake you make.

And that's only the changes that make the game easier. Palicos have the least depth they've ever had. You only have one, and skills are entirely tied to a single piece of equipment you give to it. This means there aren't different palicos with their own specialties, no variations in stats, skills, or behavior. Quests aren't divided between single-player and gathering hall, anymore, meaning there isn't a second set of more difficult quests for you to take on. The amount of monsters and maps is paltry, and their size doesn't make up for it, because the environmental variety within them is tiny. You have a jungle map, a desert map, a coral reef map, a map themed around dead things, and a map that's half lava half bare rock and crystal. There's no map that requires cold protection, at all, and you only need heat protection in the few zones of the last map that have exposed lava. And, you know all those cool event quests you could download in the past games, which you had access to forever? They are limited to a specific period of time, here, for no fucking reason. Miss your chance because life got in the way or you wanted to play other vidya? Too bad, you don't get to do those hunts or get that neat equipment.
And I haven't even gotten to the small annoyances, like how the game connects to a server immediately upon starting, before you can even play it. The village hub is unnecessarily spacious and poorly laid-out, making doing anything in it take way more time than it should. The game loves to pull camera control away from you to show you something it thinks is really important, when you couldn't care less and are probably trying to look at something else. Monsters refuse to fight in the areas between major zones, and will actively run off to one if you aggro them between zones.
MH-fags should be furious at this blatant attempt to throw them at the wayside in favor of the mainstream western audience. PC-fags should be furious that this is their only proper MH game, especially with how poor a port it is and how it isn't even caught-up to the console versions in terms of content updates. The only reason I can see anyone legitimately defend this game is if they're a blind fanboy, one of the casuals it was made to appeal to, a shill, or someone who played it as their first and is the kind of retard that has overly-affectionate feelings towards games for that reason. Anyone defending it just to shitpost should take a serious look at their life priorities and realize how sad they are (as with anyone who shitposts to hurt this board). This is a terrible direction for the series, and I can only hope that, now they've roped in the casual masses, the devs will believe they've learned the ropes and are ready to put on the big boy pants and deal with an actual challenge.

The problem is that you have to unlock every item but the default by finding the native cats in each map and doing their request. I stuck my cat with the knives that make him occasionally steal parts from monsters. Slightly cuts down the grind and stops him from making hunts as much of a cakewalk.

Even without the auto heals every 2 minutes cats make the game beyond trivial since the monster will almost never target you more than once consecutively. Playing with cats off I often have to actually roll to avoid potentially dying instead of just stand still and watching the monster spend the next two minutes targetting the cat while it heals me. Cats have always made the game trivial by stopping the monster from targetting you consecutively, and consecutive attacks are the only time you'll feel genuinely threatened or punished in monster hunter, but at least in previous games it seems like the monster would still go after you every second attack. In world it reaelly seems like maybe 1 in 4 attacks will target you when you bring a cat along and frankly you're not even playing anything at that point. With cats on you're not even playing a game at all in any way, but with cats off you can really see the difference. If you ignore ever single other change the game has made and just look at the combat, with no cats it's as least as challenging as playing double cross in village with a high rank eva+2 spe-eating armor set using brave style.

I've been wanting to try MH for a while, and the combat is pretty fun (coming from a Dark Souls player), switch axe and chargeblade are my favorites so far, maybe I'll try the insect glaive some time. The problem is that this game isn't optmized for shit, I can hardly get 60 in town; plus and it requires a pretty large investment to learn all the mechanics and optimum setups, which I may or may not be willing to do for yet another game. If I can convince my pals that the steamworks crack isn't going to get them b& from steam my enjoyment will likely go up. I played the 'dying light demo' for DSIII a couple years ago and nothing ill came of it, and most people seem to agree that Gabe doesn't give a fuck, so hopefully we can have some fun in the 'payday 2 demo' too.

Custom quests have been a thing in every psp and 3ds monster hunter for years though. Unless you mean that people can make custom quests in world with unique triggers and event flags in them it's not unique to world. Frankly the mods out there for world are just mods that take the game slightly less unplayable like removing scoutflies, fixing the weird desaturation or turning the handler into a regular weirdo instead of a terrifying goblino.

I'm somewhere in the middle with this game, for one I like a lot of the new things they brought to the table and on the other they without a doubt casualized a great deal of things. I'll focus on the one thing that bothered me the most, the game's overall difficulty. I was forged in the fires of early gen titles where even the early large monsters would take up to 20-30 minutes to bring down this was both for the lack of resources and weapons at your disposal but also because back then even those monsters had a lot of HP, this had a purpose, to unconsciously prime you to bring tools to help you. This was for the most part maintained up until MHP3rd which is the first one that I remember where they started to drastically lower the HP of normal medium monsters to make early hunts more manageable, it wasn't by much but enough take some of the tedium out of the early game so that one could progress faster into the mid game, a welcome change. Over the years the series has tried to trim down the fat of the experience so that it could be more focused and fun and in my opinion they managed to get the "perfect" balance on the 4th gen both in terms of challenge and accessibility. But what happened in MHW is retarded, I couldn't believe my eyes when I fought the first couple of large monsters, I was flabbergasted at how fast they'll die, and this was the early game, I wasn't bringing bombs or traps, just my basic weapon (GS or SA) and the small attack buff from eating and the average hunt would take between 5-10, 15 at the most because I didn't know some of the new monsters' behaviors, this is ridiculous. I kept playing as I'd normally play, upgrading my gear and bringing tools and it only got worse, I've actually spent more time on the story missions because those require you to follow a specific path and for some triggers to happen before you can proceed. I know I'm a veteran of the series but large monsters shouldn't die this fast, it was so bad I had to handicap myself using a lower tier weapons and armor and not using tools and might I add that I stopped using my cat after the 3rd large monster I fought. Late game isn't any better because of the new armor skill system lets you mix and match skills (I like this feature) and by then you're so geared with shit that even the harder fights will only take 15 minutes. I played solo for most of the game because with the monsters dying so fast why would I want help…
I don't hate this game, I just think it's sacrificing a great deal of its identity to appeal to the masses

If by veterans you mean youtube influencers like ProJared who got early access to the game and gave it a perfect score saying it was the best monster hunter ever and later admitted the game's faults like its difficulty, then I can see what you mean by veterans i.e shills.

Guild quest HP didn't scale with the number of players. Its the same whether you solo it or 4 man it. This means for the Grank quests it would be consistent for everyone. World has no separation between guild hall or village quests. This results in monsters having auch a pathetic hp pool and stun resistances that you can just flichlock them.
If you can't do that then you can literally outheal the damage done by a rathian and rathalos together and kill them while being literally blind

World has a flat multiplier for online. Single player gets one HP value, and as soon as there is any other player in your hunt it gets the multiplayer value, which is the same for 2,3, or 4 players. Seriously, the game is easy, but do at least some research.

They still have the same HP even if you solo them. There are no such thing as "normal" G rank quests either which is what everyone uses as a method of assessment.

I did it. I got to experience some of the monhun autism I like so much

>picked them up so now the smithy shows the armor I can craft
>turns out it becomes an optional quest you can retake
>hunt the red menace a bunch
>make 3 pieces for the bonus skill to trigger
>have a clownsuit made of these and two weaker armors that give affinity, and one of the rathalos pieces gives weakness exploit for even more affinity
>this plus the bonus skill makes elemental damage that much better
I haven't even done the next quest, the one that involves that large lava monster. I don't think I'm "supposed" to even have rathalos armor at this point, since the smithy won't let me upgrade it.
I feel so accomplished. This feel is what makes monhun so great.
