doom is overratted garbage, the only reason it gained popularity in recent years was because of the le rip and tear meme along with brutal doom, the game was good back in 1993 but it sequels were bad, everyone played it and better games came out around the same time. doom only became popular back then because it was the coolest FPS out there that let you shoot demons, had multiplayer but most importantly huge controversy. the gameplay of doom is quite bland even when compared to similar games like duke 3D, dark forces or even quake. the modding community can be good at times but most mods are absolute dogshit, but even with all those faults its still a far better game than nu doom, a waterd down casual shooter with all the worst elements taken from modern games and removal of all the features that made doom good and appealing, feels more like brutal doom 3D HD instead of doom 4
