Couldn't find much on the years that take place liberty city and vice city stories, is it the year the games where released as well? Since vice city is in the 80's I think.

The mainline Fallout games counting NV are known for giving you freedom to be whoever you want excluding FO3, but they do give you the option to be satan in human form.

Yeah its not open world but its not unrealistic enough that I wouldn't put it on the list. Stuff like Homefront the revolution though is just straight up alternate history so I wouldn't put it in. Revisionist is fine though.

Fuck me, i forgot to mention another three games that let you play as a villain.

The Prototype series, in the first game you play as alex mercer a sentient virus that develops feelings and a sense of righteousness, and who fights back the corporation that made it, despite all this you're encouraged to eat innocent civilians to regain health and kill just about everything that stands in your way because somehow they are even more evil than you.

In the second game you play as a dumb nigger doing dumb nigger things, and he ends up killing and eating the protagonist from the first game over a chimpout, despite said protagonist turning into a legitimate good guy, he was building up an army of infected to destroy the evil corporation once and for all, because they already had developed a cure for the virus but refused to hand it over unless they were made the police of the world and given six gorillion shekels.

The Saboteur is a game where you play as a degenerate frog in WW2, the whole point of the game is liberating all of nazi occupied france, but get this, said """oppressed""" zones are perfectly peaceful until you come and pozz it up, the only indication of nazis being evil is that the zones they occupy have this odd gray filter over them, and retaking them makes them colorful again, the story is similarly stupid, they're just fighting back against you, hell one the very first things you do in the game is punch a german soldier in a pub just because you don't like him.

You play as a villain so It would be the other way around, yet even with the s*** government rico is payed not to take it over but to literally destroy the infrastructure back to the stone ages and replace the government with either communists, environmentalists or criminals. Not to mention you can kill civilians with no repercussions.

Thanks for the saboteur, I remembered the game but not the name, you play as a villain in it since the nazi's run the government reasonably well and you can just kill anyone, work with criminals and fuck everything up.

Prototype doesn't count since it isn't really realistic or really normal, plus its pretty much post-apocalyptic. And the third just cause game has you as a villain but its not very realistic, but if you guys really want it Il put it in.

I put in far cry 2 and far cry 3 since both those games have you kind of as a criminal fighting more degenerate criminals, far cry 4 has you fighting the governement and far cry 5 is s*** so I won't put it in. Also I put in just cause 3 since its doesn't have aliens or magic or anything crazy in the main story, just experimental tech and wonky mechanics.

I'm just trying to make a realistic open world villain game list dude. If you want something different you can always make one yourself.

I've updated the list a lot more now but I'm thinking of putting in the mercenaries series, Sid Meier's Pirates (2004), the rest of the yakusa games and Tom Clancy Wild Lands. I'm also thinking of putting in sleeping dogs but don't know for sure if its a villain game.

Every one I played will game over you if you kill an innocent person. Is that villain-like? Unless you're talking about the overall ideology being pushed, in which case I agree. Ezio in the one set in Constantinople was about as good-goy as at gets, so bad it was hard to make myself finish the game.

Yeah, already explained a few times but the over all ideology of the assassins with them being essentially terrorists and the freedom to kill any guard, cop or soldier. Plus a lot of the games are centered around making money, with the Italian ones pretty much making your own proto-mafia, with black flag having you as an actual pirate disguised as an assassin. Plus all assassins are hated and feared by common-folk in all the games and the only exception being origins in which you become outcast halfway in and pretty much control egypt at gunpoint at the end with the aya chick threatening cleopatra if she doesn't play ball.

Alright that's it for this thread, think I got as much as I will be able to get, thanks for the suggestions and helping to improve the list. Nice to have some people who know their stuff about video games.
