There is no alternative to UU, it's very much a stand alone game unless you try to bring up Arx Fatalis

really? Even back in 2005 I ran PS1 emulation adequately on a Turion X2. It was epsxe at the time which is subpar for today but I imagine anything from the past 10 years would handle it well enough. There's also the Shadow Tower games which many consider better than the series they're an off-shoot of.
