Vanilla, TBC, and WotLK are all fun. Vanilla, go Kronos 3. TBC, go Sunwell (fresh TBC on 30th of this month) or wait for Netherwing. WotLK, go Gamer District (their server was just released 1-2 months ago) or Sunwell (released ~8 months ago, still progressing).

I leveled and raided on Kronos 1 for awhile, then when K3 popped I got a char up to level 51 or so. So maybe 10 or so minor bugs that entire time, but when they did happen they ruined the quests I was on. I remember one was one of the chicken escorts, apparently it was bugged to where if someone did it previously but abandoned it without killing all the adds that spawn along the way, they'd spawn in addition to the new adds that spawn when you did it. So three of us facing 15 mobs of our own level.

I dunno, seemed 99% bug-free but 1% annoying bugs that fuck up what you're doing.

Still prefer it though, over Chink's Hope with their legions of botters, chinks, and the GMs who ban people arbitrarily and then mock them when they appeal the ban.

I've been looking forward to Netherwing (TBC), as it's a project that seems to have a lot of quality behind it (judging from the open beta). Instant 70 beta for the server is happening soon, if you just want to get some raiding out of your system that'll be an easy way to jump in.

Sunwell's WotLK seems decent so far, but the whole thing is somewhat tiresome. I invested tons of time into playing on K1, then K3 and Northdale came out and K1 has 40-50 players online at peak. Just didn't have the motivation to get to 60 on K3 and do it all again. My old guild still raids on K1 but meh, all but 4 of my gearslots are BiS so not much motivation there either. Just tiresome.

The truth is that the game was never the same after Vanilla. Which functioned as a whole unit, and all made sense together with no part left behind. As soon as the first expansion hit, parts of the old game started falling off and were left a desert for years to come.

I have compared videos many times, as have many others; there's nothing undertuned about it.

I raided vanilla WoW back in the day (excluding Naxx and AQ40), and on Kronos 1 I raided everything from MC and ZG to downing KT. So unless you have actual evidence, then you have zero argument.

Also, a few times in the past I've seen some tards linking to videos they took from Kronos years earlier and kept spamming them saying "LOL UNDERTUNED" even though the part that was undertuned in the video had long, long since been fixed and corrected, so if you fell for those then maybe that's why you have that impression.

It's x2 xp from levels 1-55, x1 xp from 55-70, all other rates are x1. They have a shop where you can pay for cosmetic shit like certain older mounts, and at a certain point in the future they said they'll offer the option to buy temporary xp boosts, so it's kind of bullshit there. Aside from those particular things (cosmetics + xp boost), there's nothing you can buy to gain an in-game advantage.

I'm still torn up about it; I started a character on Sunwell's WotLK server 3 days ago just to screw around and see how the scripting is, and it's pretty good so far. Found 3 mobs total who were screwey (3 of the harpies in Durotar got stuck in the middle of the air so you couldn't loot them, rest of the mobs were fine). My guy is only level 12 though, but the server seems solid and I couldn't find any evidence of bad scripting at end-game from looking at videos and reading accounts of players on forums and shit.

So it seems legit, but I'm a bit iffy as to whether they'll be able to fix enough bugs (it's in beta right now, the TBC server that is) to be mostly bug-free on release on Nov. 30th, but we'll see.

Another positive is that, while the TBC realm and the non-dead WotLK realm (they have two WotLK realms, one of which is dead) are english-only and international, the devs and hosts themselves are Polish and the server is hosted in Poland, so it's far less likely it'll voluntarily or mandatorily get shut down like Chink's Hope is planning on doing.

K3 actually does have the Twinstar Shop now; they implemented it a few months back. You can't buy any P2W stuff though, so don't know what that anon was bitching about.

You can buy/sell/trade chars, which some might have qualms about, but it's only chars that players have leveled and sold themselves, none of them are generated or anything. Still annoying, though.

Sunwell has been around for awhile. originally it was PL only and near the end of it's original life they shut down registrations. I'm personally not a fan of wrath. LFG killed a lot of the world exploration in my book and need to socialize with people on your server.

I like vanilla for how big the world feels, but we constantly have had issues with picking servers and we'll get (1)s screaming how the server of choice this time around is "cucked" because they can't spam chat like retards. So they'll shill THEIR ideal server and the group gets splintered. We haven't been the same since nost. Maybe a good Vanilla server will pop or something or a solid TBC server with 1x rates (though blood elves).

Also a lot of vanilla servers would be undertuned if they're running on 1.12 talents and specs, so people complaining really don't understand how fucked powerlevels got in WoW even during vanilla

Wasn't aware of that. I haven't played until recently to see how dead the guild on K3 was and saw beef and someone else had been on fairly recently. Never had a issue with the character AH only because it was a smart move on their part, cut out the black market of character trading, use it to fund your server, let people buy a geared character and watch them suck at it.

I still have the custom addon we created on K3 for the book of grudges.

Well the single biggest thing affected by 1.12 was the change of the threat cap, thus enabling fury warriors to out-dps everyone in the fucking game.

The Sunwell TBC seems nice enough; the 2x xp is only to level 55, then it goes back to 1x; and all of the other rates are always 1x. I'm gonna give it a shot anyway.

Not sure if I'll stick with it to 70, though; just gonna play it by ear. Given my motivation I might end up dropping it.

I'm mainly looking forward to it because I never raided in TBC before; I did vanilla and wrath raiding, but that's it.

And yeah the burnout sucks. I was part of the K3 guild we had at launch, but it suffered from major player number decrease after the first month or so. I ended up not even making it to 60 and just going back and raiding on my huntard on K1.

It's the same issue as the last time this discussion popped up: there's a distinct lack of videos from 2004-2005 that 1) show a tank's damage intake and 2) have high enough resolution to read the numbers. What I'm going off of is my memory of running these dungeons many, many times throughout vanilla and TBC, due to me being an altoholic. Hell, you can compare some Nost/Elysium to Kronos videos and you'll see a fairly big difference - and Nost/Elysium also veered on the undertuned side of things.

In any case, Nost and Elysium felt "fairly right" and K2 felt extremely undertuned, in some cases mobs on K2 did as low as half the damage they were supposed to. Leveling dungeons either needed CC + coordination + interrupts or they needed to have the healer drink every other pull. SM's Myrmidons raped tanks when they enraged, as in a lvl 38 Warrior with great gear using Demo Shout could get killed by a single enraged Myrmidon if the healer wasn't spamming into him AND if the Myrmidon didn't die quick enough. You used to stun/kite those fuckers during the enrage or the tank got his shit pushed in. Killing a Myrmidon first while having 2-3 other elites beating on the tank = dead tank, guaranteed. It may seem like a small detail, but repeat this over and over and over again through all of K2's dungeons and you end up with people with good long term memory lamenting the fact that K2's dungeons were undertuned as fuck.

I leveled multiple times in retail vanilla, and twice (once to 51 once to 60) on K3 and K1 respectively, and they don't feel undertuned to me, really. However, like you said we've had this discussion a million times in other threads so oh well. In spite of me thinking it's a good server scripting- and tuning-wise, it did have annoying bugs and some of them remained unfixed for a long time, and K3 somehow managed to make the trolls-coming-up-the-staircase fight in ZF bug-out even though it worked fine on K1.

Aside from that, though:

if anyone else is interested in trying out Sunwell's TBC, we should arrange something to add eachother to friends in-game or keep track of eachother. Doubt there'll be more than 4-5 of us at the very most, so not enough for a guild really, but just an idea.

Never played the dungeons or the end-game on Sunwell's other servers so no idea how the quality is beyond the first few levels, but we'll see.
