How is it such a simple game idea fluctuated so much in quality just to plummet to pure propaganda fan fiction? What could've done this? Did they just stretch the series too thin too quickly? Did they not have any real plan? Why are the french so incompetent at keeping games alive without going to crap? Why are Templars forever demonized in history and fiction?

It was always pure propaganda fanfiction

The order of assassins, which in reality was an islamic military, are portrayed as benevolent proponents of freedom.

The templars, in reality Catholic soldiers, are portrayed as megalomaniacs. Why? Because Christianity is frowned upon now, and to make muslims the bad guys would be offensive to terrorists.

What makes it worse is that the potential is there. Exploration, planning and scouting assassination targets and locations, with social stealth, proper stealth and parkour sounds fun as fuck. But they ran the series into the ground.
