Do you avoid certain games strictly/solely based on how the playable character looks?
I know some fags on this board really hate Jrpgs (or any game, really) that has any "anime looking" characters in it. Especially ones with teenaged protagonists. And irl, there's this one Smashfag I know that absolutely hated that Richter got into Smash instead of Trevor Belmont. He went on a long tangent on how much he fucking hates all "anime artstyle" games. And I do mean All of them. He can tolerate the 8-bit Castlevania games (Castlevania 1 & 3; Simon and Trevor), but says he can't stand the later "anime" Castlevanias like Rondo of Blood and Aria of Sorrow. What a retard.
I don't hate anime myself, so I tell him how retarded he is for hating it. Not that I'm one to talk though. Because personally speaking, I also avoid certain games solely based on how the protagonist looks. If any game forces me to play as a nigger (like Lee in The Walking Dead) or an ugly girl (like Aloy in Horizon), I usually skip out on it. I just don't like characters I find visually unattractive at all. Especially if they're niggers with unappealing facial features like wide noses and baboon lips. Flatout disgusting.
So how about you, anon? Any type of protagonist / playable character that you simply can't tolerate? I guess some of the usual /v/ responses would be "anime characters", "niggers", or furries" like that Dust game.

I don't really have a problem with whatever the fuck the protagonist is, the problems for me come with his way of thinking or things he says. What I do have a problem is with the other characters. It's quick for me to hate them. I dropped Nier because of 9s, at first 2b at least would push the faggot off but then she started liking him and there was nothing I could do but get cucked. Then there was that nigger on the base that always kept his eyes on me, I wanted to beat the shit out of him too.
The protagonist I always seem to see as me or my partner, in partner as someone I help and cheer for. Games need more ability for you to choose who are your friends and who you want to part ways with.

I generally can't stand games with a whiny NuLara Croft style protagonist. I get having a character doubting himself, or having a crisis and thinking that they can't do it, but when every single fucking word coming out of their mouth is "Oh god I can't do this", "What do I dooooo???" and generic whining I just uninstall on the spot. Doubly so if they have that whiny, teenage hipster voice of tone that sounds like they're about to cry at any moment. I generally prefer voiced protagonists that don't speak much but, when they do, it doesn't detract from the game. Thief did this pretty well, I liked Garrett's character. In Deadly Shadows they made him talk a little bit too much, though. Not to mention he kinda made hints obvious when they should have been kept ambiguous, just like in the first two games. Sometimes he just says, for instance, "That cog looks inconspicuous, someone could have an accident" which blatantly nudges you into pushing said cog over. In the first two, the way I remember it is that he only ever comments on something, and it's usually done snarkily.

CJ did this a lot more, but I guess it worked because CJ was a more of a charicature character while Franklin was taken a lot more seriously. Because of current year they ended up making Franklin the most bland and boring protagonist. The great thing about GTA SA is that it never took itself seriously.
Personally I usually don't pay much attention to the characters I play as, though a game I remember feeling tempted to drop at the beginning because of it was Far Cry 3, I hated that your pc is supposed to be a rich normalfag chad.
I was also pretty interested in Timespinner - was following it since development, but after seeing what they did to the character portraits (everyone is a mistery meat mutt with tumblr noses and problem hair) and dialogue, I wouldn't touch it with a 20 foot pole in its original form. At least there are people making mods to unpoz it so I might give it a try some time.

I will never not play a game just based on the character design, but seeing diversity hires is ALWAYS a red flag. I'm not dumb enough to preorder anything ever, but when I see a stronk waman or some kind of ambiguous brown, my first reaction is to check the reviews from trusted sources and anons alike, possibly also get some opinions on it from friends or from /v/. No matter how much I might have liked the dev's previous work or how good it looks on the surface, diversity quotas are generally a sign that the actual talent in the company has gone down, and it's time to do some research. Or you know, just take a 100% off discount and make my own no-money judgement.
