0854f1 (7)  No.15672351>>15686265 >>15705112 >>15737171 [Watch Thread][Show All Posts]

As things go, the video gaming scene have taken a clear stance about the anti-gacha/lootbox law that popped out in Belgium and Netherlands. And their stance is clear - "These countries doesn't exist anymore for our games".

Outside of few games (to name them, the Dragon Ball gacha game Dokkan Battle, as well as Blizzard's Heartstone), who take the sensible approach and simply block microtransactions and/or offer free alternatives, most companies simply take the easy way out, block Belgian and Dutch players, and increase their costs to compensate for the lost money "caused by the evil Belgian laws".

The most recent company to join the fray is Square Enix, who decided in a simple move to purge Belgian players from his most popular mobile franchises, Mobius Final Fantasy (both Steam and mobile versions) and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (quite impactful as this game was planned years ago to actually be Final Fantasy XVI, hence the Exvius who has no meaning outside of hiding the number).

Any other recent cases you noticed ? Any other games impacted by that ?

66df7b (1)  No.15672507>>15672525 >>15686228

I can't recall ever playing anything with Belgian or Dutch people, so no really can't say I've noticed at all

belgians and dutch aren't even people to begin with

02e8e5 (3)  No.15672533>>15672739

Square Enix was doing them a favor in all honesty.

0854f1 (7)  No.15672739

>>15672533

True, both games were cancerous as hell.

3c746d (1)  No.15672860

A country where bad game companies don't exist? Sounds nice.

36100b (1)  No.15672931

Has Fate GO decided to just block all Belgians too? A friend of mine is hopelessly addicted to that game, I hope a region ban will finally allow him to be set free.

Until he realizes he can bypass it with a VPN/Proxy. Whales gonna whale.

d22a8c (1)  No.15673304>>15673381 >>15673409

>Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (quite impactful as this game was planned years ago to actually be Final Fantasy XVI, hence the Exvius who has no meaning outside of hiding the number).

Just fucking kill me. Even if this is just some random dumbshit from an anon, I dread every single thing modern Square is doing with this franchise.

0854f1 (7)  No.15673381>>15673409

>>15673304

It has been confirmed during several interviews that they used the term Exvius to hide the XVI in plain sight, in order to use that as a reveal at the end of the story.

Yet the story isn't finished, as the game is close to its second/third birthday (not sure), so no reveal.

Still not as needless as the FF7 spinoff naming scheme.

0854f1 (7)  No.15673829

>>15673409

Still needless as Squeenix refuses to confirm or deny it, and them blocking a possibly main entry Final Fantasy game might make some noise.

You're missing the rather crucial fact that they're doing this to avoid having to drop their gambling milking machine worldwide by just giving up on the select few countries that fight it.

I don't think video game gambling will ever go away anyways as long as the US and east Asian markets remain alive. Who knows how much microtransaction money you can make off of the Chinese alone.

Which is why it's one of the countries who can do whatever they want, no matter what EU says.

>>15686265

They're gonna ban countries, one after the other, until it only remains shitholes who don't pay or USA. Then, the very moment USA will announce the same law, the game will be shutdown there too. And while people will complain, due to US citizens not having the same rights as EU ones, Squeenix will run away with the money.

They're hoping that denial of service like this will make desperate paypigs demand the government to overturn these decisions. If nothing comes of this in two or so years, you'll see some companies allow services again and say "look, it's not all about the money, see how nice we are!" But for now, they're playing the long game.

f3e46a (2)  No.15686363>>15686370

If they were playing the long game they'd remove lootboxes and continue on their merry way without having to worry about picking more fights down the line.

d6006e (2)  No.15686370

>>15686363

Just like the entirety of Reddit bought Battlefront 2 after making that EA post the most downvoted in history, the same people will praise any company that overturns their decision on this. If they can get the decision overturned and make money, that's the first thing they want, but otherwise, they'll still get some good PR out of it down the line.

That is good.

It must be pushed to every country and every market.

Companies that simply block consumers that purchased their products must be forced into bankruptcy.

With enough pressure, we can make all countries that are the main markets for gaming criminalize lootboxes completely, creating a huge hole in those corporations' finances, at the same time that more people stop being consumers for those companies, and abandon their brands completely, accelerating the crash.

There are no good companies.

All companies are enemies of their customers.

It is coming. Many countries and some US states are working together to have gacha games ruled as gambling, and should they actually make it, more and more of these cancers will be purged off both Europe and US.

https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/PDF/International-gaming-and-gambling-declaration-2018.pdf for the original declaration and countries/states concerned. Be sure to put a lot of pressure for them to work on it.

Please Mr government you are so efficient and benevolent please protect me from the big bad companies because I have no will power or dislike something they are doing. I am sure you would never go too far and will certainly only banish the evil thing I am begging you to regulate. After all Mr Government it is not like anyone else likes these things I do not like so please take more of my and these evil corporations rights away immediately.

Yes, and it's a good thing. Great, even. Normalfags are the reason the floodgates for socjus and censorship were opened. With the (((EU))) being a nanny to the gaming industry, we'll finally see normalfags leaving our hobby alone for fucking good, so that freeware and mods can return as the defacto way to extend a game's life cycle.

While I'm more or less on your side, I'd still be careful for bigger countries to enter the picture. Especially France and Germany, due to all the cultural enrichment they got. Belgium is fine, though, and it has been proven they don't hesitate to throw the foot at EU's face or to force directives to the whole of it, as long as it benefits people.

As well as America, Russia, and most of the Balkans.

When you think about it most modern countries are not real. You need a homogeneous culture, blood, and thoughtform to create a country, and those political states have none of those things.

Belgium at least is white, which I can't say for America and Russia.

ce113a (1)  No.15745233

That Belgian law is really great, honestly. It only harms shit devs who like "lootbox" con scheme mechanics. We should push for anti-lootbox laws in every country worldwide. No need to defend this shit mechanic over reasons like muh freeze peach or muh art. It's only making games and gaming worse. Not better.

c1a636 (1)  No.15748420

Hopefully laws against lootboxes are just the start. We need a good old fashioned soccermom moral panic campaign about satanic games on them finger smudge devil tablet contraptions siphoning the blood out of the chilluns through mama's credit card. Legal definitions aside, all pay2win mechanics and "freemium" business models would be banned by appstores and Facebook due to mass outrage, their casualshit genres shunned by moralistic normalfags.

With any luck, the massive, sudden vacuum of revenues from whales might even spur the Great Crash /v/ has dreamt of so long.
