Nah, The Lost Age was pretty great. It was really more of a "part 2" than a true sequel, fully expecting you to have played the first game.

Dark Dawn was… the best way to describe it is underwhelming. Story wise you play as Isaac's kid and it hints at just how much things have changed since alchemy was brought back and the world is no longer limping towards destruction. Town stuff happens and you go off on what should be a small quest. It winds up taking the whole game. The mini-black holes that Isaac and Garrett were investigating don't show up until the end of game cliffhanger. I don't know if it was a result of me being older, but combat felt very safe and bosses were painfully easy. It was peppered with callbacks to characters from the first 2 games but as it went on I found myself caring less and less. At some point I realized I was about to fight the last boss and just felt disappointed.
