At this point it's old lore being contradicted by new lore, and the reasoning for things being muddled. Old lore implies that the pariah gene was seeded on various planets biology after the Necron biotransferrance but before they all went to sleep. All to combat the Enslavers and other entities that were unleashed when the War in Heaven essentially ripped the Immeterium apart and created the Warp in the first place.
In the old lore, the C'tan were pretty much their entire leadership and directed the mindless actions of the Necron like Lovecraftian elder god's. As it stands, in both old and new lore, the C'tan are a fundamental component of the universe itself, somehow, and have existed for time immemorial. In the old lore they were brought into physicality as a desperation move, and boosted all the biotech and science that the Necrons have/had. Except, they weren't interested in saving them so much as tricking them as to devour their souls as part of biotransferrance. As of the new lore, the C'tan aren't any part of Necron leadership, having been shattered into semi-intact fragments of what they were.
The new lore doesn't really bring up things like the Enslavers, why psychic blanks and pariahs are born, the extent of technology the Necrons actually know and can use, and doesn't give too much of an end goal to the Necrons compared to their old chestnut of complete omnicide.

Apparently the Warhammer mod for Mount & Blade is getting an update in a week or so. I had a lot of fun playing chaos and raiding the empire viking-style in the last version. Hopefully they fixed some of the bugs and added some much needed polish.

I swear the fucking release version had much shorter loading & turn times than the current version. Coupled with more factions when playing mortal realms (even though they cut out most of not-Africa and not-South-America) turn times can be several minutes from turn 1. Current version also has new and exiting bugs such as some cinematics and movement on the campaign map playing at 3 FPS, but only if you got more than 1 monitor enabled.

After Pert showed the Imperium that Dorn was all talk and no brains and wiped the floor with him in the most humilating manner possible he gave 400 geneseeds of the Imperial Fists to all of Chaos to do what they wanted with. Pert was always a team player, both to the Imperium (getting no credit for doing the real hard work) and Chaos Undivided (Serving all the Gods Interest, even if they only casually worship them). For this all of Chaos was pretty much impressed and considering he almost murdered an Entire Legion to the Man with a skeleton crew of Iron Warriors and some ramshackle static guns in a 20 mile fort I'd say yeah, they thought he was worth rewarding.

Perturabo did nothing fucking wrong and the Iron Warriors are totally and unequivocally in the right about everything. Anytime anyone ever shit on Perturabo it's like they're physically incapable of putting themselves in someone else's shoes to try and understand him, they just chalk him up as a Saturday morning cartoon villain or a man-child. God fucking forbid that after a century of sieges and trench warfare the guy doing the most miserable, brutal fighting doesn't like the fact that his brothers are going out of their ways to fuck with him. For example, take that time Perturabo broke through a planet's defenses for his brothers that had no idea how to do it themselves, where afterwards they just listed him as some nameless comrade in arms. Or when Dorn's autistic, oblivious ass tried to re-commission that painting of the battle where the Iron Warriors fought and died in the mud while the Imperial Fists showed up at the last second to take all the glory.
If Perturabo threw a fit about the fact that he got no glory, fine, an argument could be made that he acted out of line blowing up like he did if it were indeed for lack of recognition. But it was far and beyond that by the time he turned. It wasn't just being a thankless workhorse, he and his legion was actively getting shit upon by everyone. The worst part was that when they turned to Horus, he gave promises of glory and thanks and respect for all the sacrifices they've made, and what fucking happened? The exact same fucking thing. Even during the drop site massacre, one of Horus' boys and the Emperor's Children look at each other as they dig trenches and set up fortifications and say, "Shouldn't the Iron Warriors be doing this shit?" At one other point during the heresy, some Iron Warriors that took over planets from Ultramar are bleeding the returning Ultramarines dry, despite knowing that they're going to die there, despite knowing that they've been ordered to be a distraction and a meatshield for the other traitor legions to get to Terra, despite the fact that this was the exact same fucking shit the imperium made them do and was the precise reason why they went traitor in the first place. One Iron Warrior sergeant straight up tells a traitor from another legion during a trench raid that this is when they finally realized the truth; that it was stupid of them to have any semblance of hope, to be foolish enough to think that anything would ever change.
The Iron Warriors were a legion of loyal idealists that believed in a truly beautiful future for the imperium. Nobody bothered to ask Perturabo what his vision was, and in fact it was already assumed by Fulgrim that Perturabo was a petty jealous man-child, that he was just a power hungry tyrant like the rest of the traitors and that he only dreamed of Godhood. Well it's shown what Perturabo dreams of, and it's so damn amazing that it makes that perfectionist cunt Fulgrim cry over just how wonderful it is and how ignored and neglected Perturabo had been. He didn't want an imperium of unending bloodshed, terror, mandatory chaos worship, might-makes-right, hedonism, plots and deception, or any combination of the above like his traitor brothers. Perturabo wanted a utopia, an imperium where everything was structured and ordered, where everyone had the right to follow their dreams and nothing got in their ways because everyone was afforded to be treated like a fucking human being. No more needless wars because the imperium was perfect. No more struggles for resources because everything was already calculated to maximum efficiency. No more needing to have your creativity stifled due to circumstance, because everything was made to be such a way that nothing would prevent you from being the person you always wanted to be. And unlike with almost every idealist, Perturabo could actually do this. He had the means to fulfill his vision of a place where no one would ever, ever have to experience the same pain he did. The pain of having hopes and dreams, and the pain of living to see them crushed.
The Iron Warriors are a tragic legion that perfectly embodies the saying, "Deep inside every cynic, is just a terribly disappointed idealist," and they are absolutely and totally justified in it. Let the galaxy burn.

I can see how that could happen, but I think there is a good bit more to it then that.
I think the primary reason why, Perturabo and the Iron Warriors didn't fall into the camp of any chaos god in particular is how they viewed warfare and, by extension, mentality.
It's a mathematical equation of brutal simplicity ratios of loss and gain, vectors of firepower optimization, not something of passion. There is no artistic flair to their methodology, just vicious pragmatism. That's Iron Warrior mindset towards warfare.
Emperor's Children are much different. There is spectacle and grandeur to how they fight. Dance like bladework, gunfire that is like a chorus. Tactical formations and assault patterns like brushwork on a canvas. To the Emperor's Children warfare was an art form like any other, there was emotion, skill and talent engrained into it.
While Perturabo was a perfectionist, you have to consider how and why he went about it. It was more for functionality rather then form. Slaanesh is about excess, even when it serves no functional purpose. This is anathema to Perturabo, since even his passion projects, had some form of purpose and reason to them. Where as with Fulgrim, he loved fanciful art in all it's forms, fine wine, theatre and music. While Perturabo could appreciate these, he would likely see it from a technical perspective rather than a performance or artistic one.
The difference between the too is like an Engineer and an Artist. One strives to find the most simple solution to a problem with calculation, the other attempts to solve a problem with theatrical grace.
Finally the reason why both fell was entirely different.
Fulgrim fell due to a mixture of hubris and frustration of personal design based around nebulous notion which he held so dear, perfection. He knew he was valued, celebrated and highly skilled, but deep in his mind he felt he could always be better, and it was always out of reach. Something which was easily exploitable. Which lead to having an impluse at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Perturabo on the other hand, he was disliked, thought of as a brute and only good at siege conflict. No one knew anything of which he wanted to achieve, almost no one cared and this brought frustration and resentment of most people who were his piers. It was a slow a boil which lead him to fall. However, this was almost entirely on his own accord. He didn't fall to Chaos off the bat like Fulgrim, it was a slow process through out the Heresy which corrupted him.
We also have to consider how the other three chaos gods wouldn't probably play nice with Slaanesh if he had two legions instead of just one, so she/he/it probably played ball on this occasion.

It's a RTT of spaceship combat with a dash of grand strategy in it.
It's pretty neat but the multiplayer had a lot of balance issue (but then they did field factions with ships that works really completely differently the ones from the others + a big variety of ships/weapons within the factions) while the single player is repetitive as it's basically a story skirmish mode with only a few maps that aren't multiplayer maps (but then multiplayer itself has lot of modes and the maps are randomly generated so it's not a problem that shows up until you've had quite a bit of fun). Icing on the cake is they really nailed the ambiance with top notch VA and music crazy amount of details, etc… Demonstrating great love for the setting. Hell they even managed to make Failbaddon feel scary.
For a $30 game made by a tiny indie studio it's pretty great.
It's the best 40k game in recent years.

As I recall, complex Orkoid life springs from the ground. I know that isn't very helpful on its own, but let me elaborate. These spores take root into any and all soil they possibly can, forming at first harmless fungal colonies before developing sinister root vegetable-like wombs below the ground, which function essentially as cloning vats. Then come dumb, base animals, squiggly beasts, then snotlings and grotlings to get the basic agricultural & constructional aspects off the ground, and lastly, once conditions are ripe, the orks come. They're born from the earth itself, fully formed and raring to fight. But your question is, 'what the hell is spit out?' What comes out of the ground is neither fungus nor flesh, but a painstakingly engineered hybrid of the two structures. It depends, once you get a single character up to lvl 30 the grind stops being a major issue. By then you usually have enough of every resource to put 300 power items on your level 1 other characters so leveling them takes a fraction of the time. Once you actually git gud you start doing legendary missions which are on another tier compared to heroics. 3/4 of people who play legendary know what they're doing and usually don't fuck you over with grimoires and tomes.
Most of the more recent steam reviews are salty fags who played for more than 2 hours and gabe won't give them back their money. However some do bring up some major issues with how multiplayer works, which is peer-2-peer. I don't have many problems with it and I have shit tier internet connection. There's also the fact that the engine can't handle too many enemies spawning in and you'll get this weird scene where they're just floating through the terrain walking on thin air. Plus they nerfed temp hp a lot so you can't rely on it to save you, but that comes back to the argument of git gud so it depends on who you ask. I think people who whine about temp health are just salty that they can't dodge right and can't parry worth shit.

Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain are some of the best for ground level introductions to elements of the Imperium, since they follow (relatively) normal people. Eisenhorn and Titanicus are good looks at how the Inquisition and Titan Legions operate, respectively. As far as Space Marine books go, I like Iron Snakes, Helsreach, the Salamanders trilogy to some extent, the Soul Hunter trilogy for Chaos Marines. The Shira Calpurnia books are good for being a rare look into the Arbites, but are depressing as hell, even for 40k. Speaking of, Dead Men Walking is worth a look, but is similarly depressing all around.
Your mileage may vary, but that's at least a good start without going into the Horus Heresy books, or The Beast Arises and all that.
