What's the best controller for Android devices? I wanna start using my phone for emulation.

There's no degeneracy like on-screen virtual buttons.

I need a good-ass d-pad. D-pads are essential for retro.

The 8bitdo gamepad(your first pic) is the one I use with my Note 8. It has a few issues with some of the emulators, like making very complicated to set up both analog sticks at the same time, but I bought it because it was the closest thing to a PS4 controller with the ease of portability

A hacked vita can play Vita, PSP and PS1 games natively and also has Retroarch. On top of that Piracy is piss easy since there is an application called pkgj that works exactly like Freeshop rip but for anything from the PSN store that the Vita can play. Hell, even the old piracy methods used for PSP games and eboots still work!

I mean it. You can't say a phone is the best way to emulate DS becsuse it isn't. It's probably the simplest way, I'm sure it's the cheapest way, when you think readily available touch screen you think cell phone and not PC, but a PC will run a DS emulator better than a phone and that's not a matter of opinion.

If you're talking about anything but performance when you say "best" you may have a point, which is why I ask what's your definition of "best''.

I have the exact 8bitdo controller shown in the first pic. It's a good controller with obviously decent production value so it doesn't feel like it's going to break if you drop it like most Chinese shit. However the clip to hold your phone is… not so great. It works, sure, but the controller itself is very light and phones are heavier, especially if you're using a case, making the controller/phone handheld assembly noticeably top-heavy. It's also set at an angle that can't be adjusted which I find annoying. This causes significant awkwardness when holding it for extended periods, and doesn't feel very good. It's hard to explain, but it's like the assembly is always wanting to fall backwards out of your hands. Secondly, the clip itself holding the phone doesn't hold it very well, and I've had it pop out multiple times if I jostle it too much. It's probably because I don't take the case off my phone, but who the hell can be bothered with that all the time.
