Riley was a weak main girl. Not as bad as Cosette, but not anywhere near as good as even most of the VC4 girls - let alone Imca, Riela, or Alicia.
>>Map
Don't know of one that really sticks out, maybe the first Imperial Capital map where you have to take out the bridges
>>Squad Story
Haven't played them all yet, but To Live Unbound and Mischief Makers are alright.
>What is
>>Good
-It's not such a scout rush cheese game
-Orders feel much more important
-It's basically just VC, but more of it
-Adds a bunch of good stuff from VC 2 & 3 like mini-tanks and APCs
-Tittywitch gets a happy ending
>>Bad
-That fucking tank that can passive fire with an OP gun while just driving around
-You don't actually nuke the Imperial Capital or Kill your Son
-Post game grind w/ no multiplayer like VC2 had
-I think it sold like shit, so it might be the last VC game.
Other than all that, I really wish they would have had a bunch of post-game unlockable stuff like they had with the portable games. Squad members from VC 1, 2, and 3 - extra camos, uniforms, etc. It was kind of fun having Maxamillian and Selvaria on your squad. Also surprised at the lack of references to previous games. The VC 1 & 2 squads had cameos in VC 3, and VC2 was pretty a "next generation" of Gallia - so you were often living in the shadow of the legend of Squad 7. You purchase orders from Welkin & Alicia. But in VC4, you hear an offhand comment about Maxamillian being defeated, but not even really a newspaper story referencing events in VC1, and really no references to VC3 despite the Empire having a vested interest in securing a Valkyrian Nuke/ICBM. You'd think X-O would be at least mildly interested in it since it's basically what Belgar was trying to accomplish, but without needing a living Valkyria as the catalyst, throwing his and Miller's theories (which drove Belgar crazy in the end) into question. I can't see his fanaticism blinding him to something like that.
Also, nice to see the Federation wasn't whitewashed from being bastards as was demonstrated in VC1, though most of that is laid at the feet of the United States. The game sets up a pacific theater campaign against not-Japan and not-United States. Wonder which perspective Sega will take. They can't really make a Japanese game for Japanese audiences where Japan is the bad guy and gets nuked - but they can't really paint the US as evil aggressors either and expect it to sell worldwide or even sit well with post-war Japan.
