Quick explanation for mouth breathers:
Predators are relatively weak on respawn, but bullshit when they collect their weapons from the map
Marines are made of paper, slow as shit, can't grab people for instant kills, but have fucking guns.
Aliens collect literally nothing from the map, fast as shit, can run on walls and ceilings and have a sort of short range player highlighting wall hack. Their only saving grace advantage in combat is their heavy attack has much longer range.
MELEE
The game has a simple rock paper scissors style melee system that is important to understand.
Light attacks are obviously fast, but can be blocked, when you get blocked, you are briefly staggered and can be hit by a light attack that either staggers you if you're a predator, or knocks you down making you grab able if you're marine/alien
Heavy attacks have a windup and break blocks but if you get hit by a light attack during the wind up you get staggered. But if you break a block they get staggered and can be grabbed. Keep in mind marines can't heavy attack because they have guns.
Blocking does the above shit, blocks light attacks, doesn't block heavy attacks. Important to learn as a marine as blocking a light and getting a counter will often save your life and get a free kill.
Also of note is focus attacks, which are just simple jump attacks aliens and predators can do at range that lock on, these are considered light attacks and follow the same blocking rules as light attacks.
