Zero Time Dilemma's story is pure asspull. There is no "sort of" or "like an" here.

No, because the Nonary Games version of 999 is somewhat butchered. Pirate the DS version, I'd post it but I deleted it after beating it.

As for the other two, VLR is definitely worth a pirate, because that game is basically the Skub of the series and you may as well see what side of the fence you're on.

ZTD is shit, don't even bother.

I liked 999 a lot but found VLR to be kind of lacking, I never even finished it. I think the shift in tone and style to make it closer to Danganronpa is what killed it for me, it just didn't have the same feel as 999. Plus they replaced the great animated sprites and CGs with crappy 3D models.

Pirated it on 3DS, out of the 3, VLR is the best one and stands well on it's own. I'd say it's even better if you just play that one and skip the others. ZTD is all over the place in more ways than one if you know what I mean.

Might as well play them all, 999 does the job, VLR is decent as a sequel expanding on the ideas of the first but I could have done without the character models and it leaves it so tantalising that one kind of has to play ZTD after that but as mentioned it's not as good, character models are even more off-putting everything takes on a cartoony Saw vibe and the alien time-machine is a stretch too far to get them out of writing themselves into a holding pot/corner.

You'd think people would learn to jam the incinerator door open before jumping in.

Also when playing VLR try not to notice how many times Dio touches the brim of his hat or how often Alice does the
