What a joke. Religion is not "ethnic" in the sense that only those who are born into a certain ethnic group may be given the right to practice said religion. Religions are also mentioned and refered based on the influence they had on history, which is why abrahamic religions show up most of the time followed by greek\roman mythology and followed by norse, although the last one is most likely because of how batshit crazy most of it is.

See, it's easy to make content for something related to Christianity. You have the Crusades, the Knight Templars, the priests and chapels, a lot of offshoots and everything that happened because of it, etc.

It wouldn't be as easy to make content for some of those niche religions since they never got that much done or recorded in history. It's like making a City Builder in the Stone Age, just endless mudhuts everywhere.

Special mention to Shitoism however that, despite having fuckloads of content (and fuckloads can be read literally here) never makes it that much into western culture because to understand it, you'd need a completely different mindset and world view that's incompatible with the west, so it's almost alien in nature.

I can't think of any games that have religion as anything other than press x to pray at shrine and get blessing of god/s and maybe also having a quest for each god to get an item and be their chosen one or something. What other ways could you even do god/s in a game, maybe a reputation system with bonuses or negatives for things you do that align with that gods concept of good and evil and due to the nature of god/s the reputation changes as you do things because they are always watching. Plenty of games with inspiration from various faiths and based on them but I really cannot think of any with the faith being part of game play in any way beyond what I mentioned above.

I'm more inclined that Christianity started as a religion by the poor class of people living in southern Europe, taking it from Palestine and carried it over because it was a popular religion among poor people. It gave them hope since it puts poor and rich, powerfull and weak on the same level of worth when it comes to the afterlife, and since it was indeed a pacifist religion, it's spread simply cannot be stopped that easily.

This is, Christianity was probably seen as a usefull tool by the rules in the many countries it reached. It was an excelent tool to pacify the masses and make them not only accept their ruler as having a divine mandate but it exalted the virtues of remaining poor and subservient, something every lord would like most of their subjects to remain.

Templar Knights and pretty much everything related to the Crusades was simply overusing this "tool" way too much. Lots of agression and sin could be justified since it was done against the "bad people", peasants were noble for joining in with resources or manpower (even though it just led to starvation, poverty and cannon fodder) and the few smart individuals that were aware of what the purpose of this was ended up filthy rich.

So much so that a few kings had to do something about them even. It's likely that religion lost much of it's strength not because of lack of faith but rather because the rulers at the time saw little use for that tool compared to the troubles it brought them instead.

Imagine having armed knights with noble titles, their own private army, coffers that run deeper than your own kingdom and religious zeal to back them up. Pretty fucking scary.

TL;DR: Christianity was a nice idea until someone applied it in a more efficient way to the point that it was no longer considered such a great idea.

By the way, Islam is mostly the same, a tool to shape the masses, but it's to turn them into a healthy strong army instead.
