Almost any fucking 2D indie game is like this. The vast majority of them are trash, one-off gimmick games that have nothing more to offer compared to the NES (let alone SNES/Genesis) games they miserably try to ape off of. Also, most of them are really shitty 2D sidescrollers with some other genre tacked onto it because most are lazy hacks.
At least I can enjoy the recent slew of 3D indie games. Those seem to approach the level of creativity and effort displayed in the N64 and PS1 era.
