I wouldn't say that the game is light on silly. The silliness comes from the absurdity of what you can accomplish. Dead babies aren't funny. Sofas made out of dead babies who were part of raid on your mountain colony? Hilarious. It's the same situation with Dwarf Fortress and the Orks. If you were put into a situation in which a maniac running around on fire is chopping everyone to bits, it would be horrifying, but being the observer, the outlandishness of the situation creates a comedic event. Tragedy and comedy are very much intertwined. The tragedy is that of the participant while the comedy is that of the audience.
