There are 5 Covens (front/rear party slots) with Pacts that can be slotted into each, which are items you can find in the dungeon or be awarded from doing the story missions. Each Pact has skills attached to it (every skill, characters themselves have no skills) and you can slot 3 characters into them which can cast the skills based off their stats. The pacts also augment stats and have Support slots that you can slot characters into to further augment stats and/or level them up while having them be outside battle.

I was not prepared for the Troll Shaman. My single target DPS is a one-trick pony and unbeknownst to me I had accidentally turned her to vanguard during some battle. The troll smacked her shit in right quick, though not before she got him to blinking-red status with a few turns of sustained 2k fire damage. Even for all that, with her out of the picture it was all over for me. Very expensive lost.
I have mixed feelings about the pact/coven system. It's cool that it allows you to field multiple characters in the same slot with potential to individually command each one, but on the same hand it would be ridiculously overpowered if each and every one had their own skill-set. Hence why they opted to make each puppet have 0 potential for skills and rely solely on the Pacts to temporarily impart them. That wouldn't be a problem, except each Pact is treated as an item that you must find or grind for in the dungeon. Without a bit of luck on your side, your party comp is neutered from the getgo with limited skill-set and no way to rectify it. Even worse, as far as I can tell, there is no way to actually know what each skill in the Pact does from the menu outside of the effect being self-evident from the name.
Once enemy comps begin to use buffs/debuffs, this becomes an immediate problem with no solution. I do not like it and it needs to stop. It'd be a much better system if puppets were able to permanently learn the skills the pact gives by leveling under it.

You can have hours of auto-battling through trash mobs and then bosses that party wipe you turn two because there wasn't any point to bother with party synergy when every single enemy including the 'harder' type enemies are so weak anyway.
Not that it's particularly hard to get through the bosses when you're ready for them but would it hurt to make the dungeons equivalently difficult so you're actually playing a game for the entire dungeon and not just the boss battles?

Too grindy, and too common of a JRPG trope to do that as well. You're right about not being able to get descriptions for skills right away being somewhat annoying though. I'm just bypassing it by buffing Offense x3 on everyone and using a strong Def debuff in order to drop shit in 1 or 2 turns until post-game. As opposed to grinding out separate and powerful pacts? Doable only when you've gotten high loot-drop chance by grinding trashmobs and finding mana in dungeons? It's the first idea that I thought of, and though it's common, it's still better than what we've got.

I was thinking about stuff among the lines of Soul Nomad and La Pucelle, not the Disgaea series. Sorry that didn't come out right, but Disgaea 5 had a really annoying cast of characters that obviously conflicts with each other until the end. By the time I reached LoC Baal I hadn't bothered leveling any of the story characters except for Killia and my team consisted entirely of DLCs and generics. Without a good story or setting as an incentive to grind the whole game just becomes really painful. I could at least somewhat tolerate the prolonged grinding of Disgaea 1, 2 and 4 for that reason.

I don't actually know the origin of the term Butthurt. I assumed it was a reference to the slang "getting spanked" which is just another way of saying you were defeated in combat, thus "butthurt" would be the person who is a poor loser. Although anger and anxiety are often associated with constipation and irritable bowel syndrome because the hormones associated with stress and anger can cause issues with indigestion. So maybe its a bit of both. Then again, being spanked is often associated with being the submissive sadist in a sexual relationship, thus being spanked could have a connotation of being dominated. Being dominated can be associated with being raped and being annually raped would certainly cause one's butthole to hurt.

I don't see how this is a problem. You can still find unique grinding strategies but this just makes it faster so you can tackle the actual content more often. The cheat shop only makes the grind less tedious. You can also use it to give yourself more restrictions such as no money/mana/EXP or no cancelling actions which really hinders how you can play.

I don't even know where to begin. For one, half the appeal of the old Disgaea games was how challenging they could be and that makes powering up your units that much more rewarding and half the fun was figuring out how to break the game to become overpowered. But that's exactly the same. The cheat shop doesn't stop that in any way. I even explained that you can actually use it to handicap yourself if you wanted to. Anyone can grind their dick off and get stupid strong after going through item world and killing the item god or grinding the Cave of Ordeals with arms master innocents. How does the cheat shop change this? What the cheat shop mainly does is sacrifice one stat for another. You can lower your mana and HL gain and put the extra points into EXP. Don't need to level but want mana? That's not a problem either.
The cheat shop does not influence things that actually break the game such as team combinations, skills set-ups, Lv200 items, and weapons that have a 100% rate to inflict multiple status effects. If you want to talk about turning the game into a joke, then the magic crystal/potion system breaks everything. You can have a Lv1 character that's not even reincarnated with stats that rival Lv1000 characters. They can fix any problem when it comes to stats.

that is retarded and you clearly don't understand how intensives operate. People look for the path of least resistance. The appeal of overcoming a challenge is precisely born out of the satisfaction of developing systems and skill sets that mitigate these obstacles, once you make these challenges and obstacles trivial by providing a way to weight the system you destroy all the appeal by allowing the entire structure to be undermined.

How? You have yet to explain how it actually stops you from doing all that other stuff you've mentioned or I've mentioned. It's simply changing an EXP/mana/HL multiplier by sacrificing one to boost the other which is something you could do with innocents (without sacrificing another like the Cheat shop) in Disgaea 1 or the felony system (which only effected EXP) in Disgaea 2. It also makes it so you can instantly adjust things that you used to have to go to the Dark Assembly to change like "Make enemies stronger/weaker" or 3x EXP for this character for this map. Constantly having to change enemy stats that way was tedious and not even difficult. So you were spending more time changing a stat for something instead of jumping into the meat of the game.
Disgaea's been well known to be a TRPG about absolutely breaking the game and you're complaining because people can do it earlier thanks to the Cheat Shop? Disgaea's main campaign, no matter the game, is easy enough to the point where you can beat every map in the main story without repeating a stage or grinding in item world. In fact, D5 was so easy during the main plot that I was increasing enemy stats to make it actually challenging. Once you hit post game, enemies start getting exponentially stronger and having good skill combinations and a rounded team will get you through most things. Even if they were to use the cheat shop, it would still take a while to reach the levels of the Lv1000+ enemies. And even if the cheat shop wasn't there. They would just grind to get that strong and it would just take longer than normal.
Here's everything the cheat shop does. Unless you apply handicaps, it doesn't change the way you play unless you grind so hard where only geo panels pose a threat. And without the Cheat Shop people can still do that. It sounds more like you don't like it because people don't have to grind as hard as you did. But what it actually does it streamline most of the tedious stuff so you can actually start grinding if you truly needed to grind. That way you can get to the meat of the game faster.

It's a pretty simple proposition to the player. "Do you want to play through the fun(?) puzzles we made or do you want to just jump straight into the fun character building bullshittery we're offering, we named it 'cheat shop' so you would know not to use it if you still want to play through the puzzles how we designed them." It's like saying if someone offered you two choices: 'play chess with me or play chess with me but every one of your pieces is a queen', you don't always need to pick the second choice because maybe you'd like to enjoy the game in the way it was designed to work, but you could potentially have just as much fun playing the second option, especially if you're opponenet starting pulling out fairy chess pieces or some other wacky stuff. There's no need to be such an autist about playing a game 'the best way' when a game as an entity exists to provide value through stimulation and not value through personal gain.

Karma increases your chance of getting critted, one of the various, largely useless, tooltips tells you this in a dungeon so I don't blame you for missing that. It also has effects on various skills including some of the coven's slot-in effects, probably quietly functions like a negative modifier to luck-based interactions too. One of the very first witch petition options you get clearly states that it drops your karma by 99 points for something like 3k mana. I'm honestly not sure how you got to the point of making 100k exp without noticing that, especially since so many game mechanics are hard locked behind witch petitions. This so much. I'm glad my memory is decent enough because it sure is a fucking hassle to get any meangingful information about minor details in this game, when almost any other modern dungeon crawler, or any rpg for that matter, will always have a full set of detailed tooltips and tutorials shoved away in some menu somewhere.

You actually can view them, but it's not really apparent since you need to press the Y/triangle/whichever key you assigned it to button over the covenent in the brigade menu and hit 'available donum', which lets you actually view the skill details. You can also change a character's stat growth style at any time from the status menu, which is kind of poignant when you unlock the double sharp growth pattern and is not mentioned as being possible anywhere in the game, even the witch petition says something like 'when creating a new puppet'.

Frankly aside from obvious skills like taunts(incite)/heals/buffs, the best covens are mostly the passive stat boosting one's with lots of puppet slots. Especially since more active slots = more item usage per reinforce, particularly when reliable and affordable rez'ing requires you to use jitter bugs. Mages and raptors benefit from good skills though. Incidentally, even before being able to view the skills, you could always swap covens and completely rearrange your whole team at any point in the dungeon, so you could enter an easy battle with a new pact, view the skills, then change it back if the skills were bad. One thing I'm still not totally sure about is whether all skills are exclusively influenced by DMP, or whether STR comes into play for physical type donum skills. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to test but I haven't really bothered to check. Also, it's really worth buying the different formations from the witch petitions, especially the two donum ones, if you haven't already. Donum attack formation boosts your vanguard's donum attacks by 70 fucking percent and standard attacks by 20, while healing 10% at the turn end, as well as giving some defensive passives to the rearguard too. Things like decoy and convoy are also pretty useful, especially in nightmare world where bosses can one shot weak characters like nothing.
No idea about soul clarity so I can't help you there, haven't really done any massive levelling to see any differences either.

Yes, but you are comparing apples and oranges because the goals of Chess and the Goals of Disgaea are not equivalent. If the goal of Chess was to turn your pawns into queens then it would be a more appropriate analogy. However, if we grant one of the goals of the game of chess was to 'turn all your pawns into queens' then the choice to expedite that undermines the game. The fact that you can choose not to use the aid does not negate the fact that the aid undermines the process of 'turn all your pawns into queens'.

>You have yet to explain how it actually stops you from doing all that other stuff.
self-imposed handicaps in a game that traditionally was in part about finding exploits to power level is a ridiculous prohibition. The "Cheat mechanic" is a mechanic designed to be exploited and the design of the game is fashioned around this mechanic. Thus the whole fine tuning of the experience that made it a good game is thrown out of balance and it becomes a lazy casual game for children. Your protest is essentially equivalent to suggesting people ought not to use the Item world because the Item world can be exploited. However, the very nature of the game is about playing around with systems to find exploits. To offer a "cheat" is to undermine that puzzle design. And to assume that omniscient developers designed the game to be played without the "cheat" mechanic is far too charitable, the more realistic analysis is to presume the dev's offered the gimmick because they wanted to make the series more accessible to casuals.

Can you read the whole post instead of getting caught up on the one half-assed analogy? Your argument at this point is basically saying 'Why would you play anything other than easy mode when it's there for you to use? Why wouldn't you use action replay when it exists for you to use?'. Is it impossible for you to enjoy a game because an easy mode exists? or because you could just straight up hex edit stuff to make it do what you want? It's one thing if the game is made easier globally, but if there's a set of options clearly labelled 'cheats' the point of using them is because you believe your best method of enjoying the game is not as the developers/designers expected players too, whether this is because of your personal tastes or because of your level of understanding of the system is greater than what was expected of the standard player. Complain all you want about any of the other changes in the games, but the inclusion of easily accessible, segregated and clearly labelled cheats ruining it for you just suggests genuine bona-fide autism, or barring that the same kind of ADD that makes dumb whores neglect any kind of skill or self-development and chase after chad just because they can.

I thought the same too, so I didn't buy them until I had an excess of mana. I think the difficulty modifier maybe makes them cheaper, but not sure about that. A maze or raptor in a mage pact or similar coven is really crucial though. Guaranteed all target attacks at easily 15.~2x the damage any of your physical characters put out will save you in encounters with 5+ enemies, especially one's with high dodge since donum skills seem to have different calcs for evasion. Not to mention I was hitting nearly 2k damage + 600 poison damage on the troll shaman and both of his adds every turn (that I could actually keep the maze alive that is) in donum attack formation, while my shinobushi was lucky to even output 800 to a single target. I think this was with the 'frail' pact I got out of a chest somewhere, that was a really good pact. Pincer's status res and defense boosts are kind of more reliable though for when not-dying takes priority so it is pretty good.

I've had my Maze coven in the Peco pact for ages now, but her mana reserves aren't impressive (and to make matters worse to unlock the offensive magic of the pact you must double all mana costs) so I can't take advantage of it very often. Still, she hits like a truck so all is okay in boss fights granted she doesn't get wrecked instantly. Regardless, I'm still not sold on magic. Whether or not you can utilize it appropriately is too dependent on Pact item-drop for my tastes. You either get trash pacts with trash magic, or some godlike arcane wizardry of the ultimatum that comes with severe drawbacks, such as only being able to cast 6 or so spells before you're tapped. Bells/scythes reliably hit groups for non-insignificant damage with no drawbacks so that's been my go-to for wave-clear.
Even with next to no magic, I'm not having all to hard a time of it because I lucked out into some ridiculously strong swords early (500+ attack without augmenting them) which I threw onto my Shinobi dude. With offensive reinforcement on him every turn, it's not uncommon for him to hit for 2k (or more), twice, every turn. I've got a Gothcatloli who does roughly the same damage output as well with some strong hammers. Lord help the monster if either of them crits or gores.

I looked up some information about luck, turns out it's a value in the range of 0-99 based on the name of the character at creation (renaming does nothing). Soul Transfer lowers luck based on what your lucky number is, with a repeating pattern from -36 to -27, but if it lowers your luck below 0 or above 99 it wraps around to the maximum/minimum. and you can manipulate this using unlucky gear.
Also turns out there's a really good exp farming coven late game (+666%), which only accepts puppets with even lucky numbers, so hope you picked those

Holy cow man. You're still not explaining how that happens. I swear you don't even know what the Cheat shop is and you're assuming it's Action Replay. I even linked to it to show you what it was. If you actually read it, you would realize most of the stuff in the Cheat Shop are things that you would normally pass in the Dark Assembly in earlier games. That includes stronger enemy bills, 3x EXP, prinny day, and so on. If you've never used the Cheat Shop, that means you've never made the enemies stronger in the later games which makes the grind much more proficient.
Again, actually look at what the Cheat Shop does and tell me HOW it ruins the game. It actually streamlines many features that were very tedious to tweak (like make enemies stronger bills or 3x EXP bills) so you can tackle more content faster and get more reward for certain tasks.

This is the so dumb, especially since there is no way to cure karma or prevent the damage without returning to base and it's introduced super late. It's like they suddenly remembered Karma was a mechanic for some reason and had to give it genuine reason for existing beyond vague 'you take more crits.'
The loli-scythe facet is super scrump. High as HELL agility and a 12% chance on attack while equipping a scythe to strike 4 times. This shreds the enemies.

>12% chance on attack while equipping a scythe to strike 4 times
Yeah but you have to equip a scythe, which takes up like all of your fucking equip slots. Not to mention bushis get 50% to hit twice, mazes get 15%(?) to hit like 5 times against a stunned enemy and raptors get a 3% chance to do like 50 fucking hits any time they do a standard attack. It's not bad but it's really not that overpowered in this game. By the way, were you the guy worried talking about DP issues before? Because all of your DP issues are solved by equipping the right gear instead of just auto equipping, I had a maze with >1k DP at the start of umbra because of gear.

Yes. I'm not a dipshit so I've never used the auto-equip in my life, but magic is a still a shit. No matter how much DP you stack up, it's just not worthwhile to expend it on trash mobs unless you really want an instant-win for some reason.
Scythes are great. They do superior damage to bells and slash damage. The only caveat is that you can't equip feet, but most feet are only avd/hit anyways so who gives a shit. With a few scythe/bell users in your party, all trash mobs get obliterated within the turn while not expending a drop of mana, leaving you with all your options for sudden FOE or boss battles. Bell/Scythe are truly the master race.

Assuming this was a crit that proc'd the gothics skill, 16k with 3x reinforce, sharpen 2, supercharge and the boost from veteran pact is really weak. I had a gothic lower levelled than that, with no boosts, unsynthesised equipment and no reinforcement deal out 11k just because they were on sharp or double sharp. The one thing this game really needs is auto-mapping for tiles one unit away from you. That would solve so many issues for exploration. Can someone lend me a hand? I don't know if I should change the Gossip coven for Charmer, but that would force me to remove one pierce type and the meme of Steady Aim, I can't make one of the raptor reach 1k CHM.
I know that I should be filling the White Rose with more Mazes.
Also, I have been giving to everyone Moon stance and Double Sharp except for the Fortress who have Sun stance, is that a good or a bad idea?
Right now I have finished Rosatempus. The average level of the party is 60 and the average soul clarity is 10-12, should I be able to do any super boss at this level? I already did Domina at lv30 without soul clarity cause Peco Pact was OP for that fight.
189078 No.15550716
>>15550692
Charmer is much better overall and since you have white rose for heals gossip is only really good for the magic res down skill. Moon is iffy, it's potentially useful for mazes and raptors if you plan to never see them get hit, or alternatively expect them to die in one hit if anything actually targets them, but the cut to luck means you need at least 30 points of luc in gear just to make them on par with standard and the loss to HP can be pretty devastating. I'm not totally sure what you mean by super bosses if you're including Domina but level 60 is pretty high for rosatempus, I think I was only just scratching 50 by the end of it when I played, but then again I run from battle a lot. Soul clarity doesn't really matter for anything less than 20, at 99 you'll see big differences form 1 but from 1 to 12 it's almost negligible. You still have like 3 dungeons left by the way.
All I can add is that put your forts on the right side of the brigade because target all skills from enemies always move from left to right so your forts will waste guardian soul procs on protecting themselves when they're on the left.

I already finished Rosatempus, it was really straightforward, nothing like Umbra which was really long with some random fights being actually hard, even more when a random strong opponent had a title who would be able to wipe the entire party within the first turn. Comparing Rosatempus with that is kinda a joke, I'll have to try the next area.

No joke the internal windowed borderless mode caused me to get crashes, ever since I've been running it with external programs or regular windowed mode I haven't had an issue, I am also using the patched exe but that was mostly about sound delay issues.NISA is literally the only explanation for this bullshit. Even with the patch I still get the music freaking the fuck out half the time whenever it tries to loop, which is pretty funny in the 'serious' scenes.
Speaking of the story, was it really necessary to jam in that long ass 'Dronya/Velyna got raped and beaten by literally everyone' segment? I don't exactly want a happy-go-lucky story, but it didn't really fit that well with the more pragmatic and usually subtle way the stories in the dungeons, i.e. the actual game, were delivered, or seem to be all that neccessary for the overall plot, which made it come across as a bit forced if anything. Like someone had made a dungeon crawler with an internal plot and someone else wrote a story about a dead witch being dragged about by an uber loli then decided to just sort of tape them together based on some loose connections between the two.

The only niggle I've had with it so far was Velyna's lame death due to Luca sperging out about jumping the same gap Isara did when there was no context for her to do so.

https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases/tag/9.5.4
Don't get me wrong about the story, I liked it and thought it was interesting, but it really is on a different page to the rest of the actual game. I would've much rather just had a VN or something about dronya's adventures in baba yaga's rape college and then had puppet sewer adventure as it's own game. The connections between the two do exists, but aside from ye olde soul/soma question arising from the puppets, for the most part they're pretty superficial. Especially considering how much importance is put on Dronya just because of some very significant emotional trauma when in-dungeon characters like Nico and his Numblebee boyfriend dying or Pecorino getting literally lobotomized by a bunch of psychopathic gnomes just get glazed over or played for laughs. Now I haven't 100% the game yet, but why didn't Luca just drop Isara into a puppet so Dronya and her can get back to scissoring instead of destroying the fucking multi-verse, I mean it's all Luca's fault anyway but still, the way souls work in this world really isn't very consistent. It also makes no sense that Luca's as energetic as she is considering both of her parents were fucking invalids but I'm willing to accept that as 'dude, magic, lmao'.

It's still made by NIS. NIS is still just as shit as NISA.

Alright fellas I need you to tell me this: does the game have any form of monster collecting in it. I'm assuming not, but I just wanna be 100% sure

Alright fellas, gonna need you to tell me if I can collect monsters in this game, or is it just like EO that you choose from premade characters?

Neither. You make your own characters out of a set of 8 possible classes (2 of which unlock later in the game) for a party of up to 40 characters at a time.

You know you can delete your posts, right? And no, there is no monster collection.

As expected of a NIS cock sucker. Can’t even articulate a half decent response and can only regurgitate the same lazy bullshit.

just got to the gnome dungeon, and i have couple questions. is there a witch petition that lets me use items in battle? and is there a way to speed up learning donums, or do i just have to level up covens?
420553 No.15584346
>>15584248
I don't remember if you have to do a witch petition to be able to do it, but you just press a certain key to give a coven special instructions for 1 reinforcement, which includes using items.
There is no way to learn donum, they're always unlocked from the start, different pacts just have different donum. Leveling up covens just lowers how much reinforcement they cost to have equipped.
