I have seen nothing but talk about this shit game since it became free for psplus members in August. The gameplay itself can be boiled down to hell for survivors and a cheese for killers for the first 20 hours, then a complete reversal where you're lucky to kill one survivor and all you have to do is move like a spastic, hit a few QTEs, and jump over pallets to win as a survivor. The game is very p2w with some of the best perks locked behind dlc. Thankfully, all of my normalfag friends are finally getting sick of it besides the one that actually plays video games, which makes no sense.
Fuck you, James. Stop reading walkthroughs of D:OS2 so I can enjoy our coop playthrough without min maxing everything.

Meanwhile with DBD you can fuck up 20 times in a row and still escape because of how fucking absurdly imbalanced the game is in favour of Survivors.
Half of it is pandering to casuals instead of balancing the game around competent players, the other half is just sheer incompetence by developers.

Thats why I tunnel and camp in high ranks, patrolling is for low ranks because the less frequency of swf's. They will try to save their friends because no one wants to watch spectator cam for 20 or so minutes. Also the prospect of them knowing they'll be camped, they give up to the entity earlier.

Evolve combined all shit for PvP features possible:
1. Tickle tier DPS rates.
2. Fast movement.
3. Jump spam.
4. Ultra low kill count per minute.
Every feature from the list is threatening to bury the game, but all combined is guaranteed kill. Evolve was literally the guide for future developers how you shouldn't make PvP games.

2 and 3 are problems at fundamental level fro killing game. In such game central action is act of hurting another player. But if game has fast movement and evasion player feels his hurting action as weak and powerless as he chases evading player for long minutes. Feeling weak is opposite to the feeling player wants to feel. He wants ultimate Freudian feeling of power every time he presses teh trigger and loudly releases his bullets with targets instantly BTFO. He don't wants hundreds fails of misfire.
This applies to the games of killing (shooters, slashers etc). Racings can be fast.

Variety of factors, hard to pin-point which one.
1. Right place right time, no other asymetrical style horror game existed at the time other than mods in other games.
2. Licensing, Michael Myers is still their best selling DLC, plus they have Kruger and Leatherface now on top of the obvious homages to other popular movie killers.
3. Brain dead easy gameplay on the survivor side made it very popular with twitch retards, women especially.
The game has sold about 5 million copies across PC and console, it was so successful bvhr owns the license now.
