Played the first one and know how the other 2 go, and I know for a fact there were never soldiers that were like the ones in 4. To be fair though, you are playing as a squad in the federation this time, so it makes sense to have this faction enlisting "people" like that. What disappointed me about 1 is that they never expanded on the federation being as bad as the imperial forces in trying to control Gallia (by trying to kidnap the Darcsen princess) when Gallia wanted to be left the fuck alone. It makes me think that they're going to show the federation as only the good faction that can do no wrong.

Traits like "likes men" aren't something to go up in arms about since the biographies for the characters with said traits do not say/imply that they are fags or the like (though the one you have in your post was pushing it). When characters like I mentioned have it in their biographies that they are a tranny, feminist, or a woman fighting instead of her husband instead of both fighting together, that's when you should be concerned. Just a reminder that the first Valkryia chronicles game had so many bullshit moments and other moments where you couldn't win unless you employed this single tactic which worked wonders. One example is the mission where the enemy Valkyrie joins the fight. Just try and defend it, I dare you.

If I remember correctly, everything depletes faster at 60 fps. So when the game plays at 60 fps the shock troopers shoot faster so you can't scout rush as much.

What made that mission truly shit is that she just spawns out of nowhere with no warning as to where she's going to show up. I had units up on the hill which she, of course, just slaughtered and then permakilled the instant she spawned. Funnily enough this, that enemies can spawn with no warning and thus kill off your units if you happen to have the wrong unit in the wrong place with no warning, was something that people complained a lot about in nu-Fire Emblem. I guess it's ok when Sega does it instead.

It's funny that you mention FE, cause in FE6 IIRC enemy reinforcements can move on the same exact turn/phase that they appear, which, if you're a first time player, will catch you off-guard and most likely cause one or more of your units to die. FE is notorious for being a game series full of kids who don't play the game blind and they practically play the game on 'passive' mode because of that.

No, the game really is easy as just paying attention. You get tips before and during every mission, there are even orders that mitigate the risk of every action and ensure S-rank victory in a few turns (can't use them on expert missions, but those are designed to be an unfair trial-of-order). Valkyria Chronicles holds your hand to ensure that every player can 100% it, they even give you an order on the second playthrough that shows you the position of all enemies on the map. For the missions where enemies pop out of 'nowhere', they don't get to move on the turn they show up. Of course, you won't know all the mechanics of the game in your first few battles, but after a while you should've figured out; don't deploy more units than you need or else they will die, smoke is a get out of jail free card and most importantly, LISTEN TO THE COMMS.

Theres a bigger map and you can see the sweden/finland/norway area above where Germany would be. The map above is kinda missleading, as the red isn't all Empire territory. I couldn't even imagine the malfunction that would happen in their heads if they read or watched something where the bad guy ends up being shown in a sympathetic light, Fist of the North Star in particular loves doing this, I can think of more antagonists who had some prominence in the story who ended up being called irredeemable than those who end up being exonerated in some way. Shin has been revealed to be tricked by Jagi to take Yuria from Kenshiro because he wasn't strong enough to protect her. Souther was traumatized when he killed his master. Raoh was revealed to be a benevolent dictator all along, in fact Raoh got the dindu nuffin treatment so much that I know people who think Raoh's actually more of a good guy than Kenshiro. The only somewhat prominent bad guys I can think of where the manga concluded with "yeah, he's actually a piece of shit for real" were Yuda and Jagi. And even with fucking JAGI they tried to make the reader sympathize with him by showing that his descent towards madness was caused by a string of bad things happening to him over the course of a few days.

I sniped the far left then rushed it with a scout, after taking the base I called in another sniper and a lancer; makes taking the final base a hell of a lot easier when you have a lancer (to help deal with the T-34's) and a sniper (to deal with the enemy mortars) on the high ground, if you give your tank a lot of accuracy buffs it can take out enemy anti-tanks pretty easily, from there you should be able to rush the main enemy camp with a scout or the APC no problem.

I struggled a lot more with breaking the line part 2, still got a B. Considering that Lancers get mortar style shots later when they get an Elite class upgrade, they can also be used as a Grenadier too.

And several Lancers are friends with eachother, so they can double up on tanks too. They'll have difficulty with personnel and other lancers, but that's about it, they're pretty good. Also Shocktrooper machine guns got debuffed against tank weak spots, so they're actually necessary until maybe late game.

About 16 hours into the game now, just got to the end of chapter 7, gotta say VC4 is an improvement over VC1 in just about every way so far. Scout rush is still the name of the game but your forced to use more of your units to make the scout rush happen.

I've found that the new systems they put in place including clown car-ing around the map with Cactus has made me basically drop scouts in general actually.

They're way weaker than they used to be and just about everything has interception fire now, even SNIPERS gets interception fire and that shit hurts.

Scout AP is fantastic, but engineer AP pools aren't that far behind, and every other class despite being less mobile definitely got buffed. Honestly for me the biggest upgrade has been to shocktroopers, their far more mobile than compared to VC1 combined with the aforementioned clown car-ing and direct leading, if you're planning to assault a location, it's universally better to use shocks.

Granted on some maps using scouts as leaders to get shock troopers close to a fight is something desirable, but the same can be said of the clown car.

On the topic of interception fire, is it just me or is the AI dumber than ever? I've had over a dozen instances were it sends a scout or a shock trooper straight in to a hail of my bullets and eats it without a second thought and gets its soldiers killed for seemingly no reason at all.

Other times I've had my shock troopers let enemy soldiers walk right pass them without even a glance, let alone a single bullet being fired, when they should be clearly able to see them and open fire.

anyone here hit mission 15 yet, i have no idea how thy expect you to beat this with actual strategy, spoilers below

I initially attempted to lure walz to the upper left side of the map, abandoning base camp completely to place grenadiers with anti-armor weapons to bombard the fuck out of him when he chases. I broke his gattling with the haffen and tried to just lure him back, but if he gets to turn 3 cymaria hops on top of his tank and places a instant kill zone that's fucking huge on the map. After he nuked both my tanks with that he then wouldn't even drive towards where my grenadiers were so i reset the mission, put 3 grenadiers into my APC and just bum rushed him after using haffen to break his gattling, took two turns but i bet you could do it in 1 if connors negative trait hadn't activated during my first turn

fairly sure it's based on how many command points you spend on a unit, though I'm not 100% sure cause it seems inconsistent, like some characters seem to have gone up in rank a lot faster than others I feel I spent a lot more time using.

In short though just deploy certain units a lot and use them and their rank will go up.

For the squad stories you fortunately only need to rank up one of the participating members before the story unlocks for the group.

What I figured out is it involves getting at least one member to corporal which i think is like 30 uses. I grinded a bunch of my units by doing the skirmish on the snow bridge where you can successfully kill every enemy on the map in roughly two turns and just selecting and doing nothing with with my guys on the field until I got bored since they enemy won't even be able to request reinforcements at that points and you can just sit on the map. Another factor is how far into the story you are like for Ryan and Kiegal even if you have them at corporal it won't activate until after you've merged with squad F
