d8c6fc  No.15478396

IGN uploaded the first half hour of the new Starfox-but-not-Starfox game a couple weeks ago, but I didn't see a thread about it so I'm making this one. Overall I think it'll be mediocre but I'm feeling ambivalent about what I saw.

The bad:

>human characters

>tonnes of human characters

>human ship's crew outnumber the starfox characters 2 to 1

>they're all painfully generic, including the tranny-looking muscle chick who is more buff than the dudes

>safe, airbrushed dreamworks art style

>crushingly bland dialogue

>that confusing mess of a HUD and those messes of menu screens

>cartoon starfox characters walking around with human characters (from a different star system/galaxy, but still)

>No Man's Sky robots

>game has a weird buttermilk filter over the lens when on the planet (maybe it's only desert planets?)

>fucking vision towers

>minimap pointers

>scanning wildlife

>handing in quests and doing all of the above for XP

>Falco still doesn't have a Brooklyn accent

The good:

>XP seems to be spendable points you get for doing cool things rather than a grind (although this being a Ubisoft game, I'm probably wrong)

>moving around on the planet looked bouncy and tactile

>boosting across deserted landscapes is made more interesting by being able to ramp off of scenery and chain together barrel rolls for small XP multipliers

>you can equip your ship with two weapons at a time, which can combine their shot effects in neat ways, and switching between them is easy and fast

>animations are really expressive and vibrant, and the Starfox team in particular looks good

I don't have a Switch and was never considering one, but I'm genuinely kind of stumped about this one. Every other minute my thoughts would fluctuate from cautious optimism to bafflement and frustration at obvious Ubisoft-isms; I heard jokes five years ago about them not being able to design games without vision towers and clusterfuck minimaps, but those jokes are now a reality. Even if the human crew had been smaller and trimmed the redundant characters (you could have all the important dynamics with 3 characters, maximum) I'd be more conciliatory.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw looks promising if the trailer is anything to go by. Any dev willing to take open shots at Scam Yiddizen like that is worth at least a cursory glance from where I'm standing; the hour of almost pure gameplay they uploaded doesn't hurt, either.

We truly are living in the worst timeline.

They did it, the motherfuckers did it, furries managed to cross Star Fox with actual humans officially. How the hell did this happened? Seems like Sonic '06 all over again seeing how there's no Krystal anymore.

Other than that, game looks fine. It's a new Star Fox game which is what I wanted even if it's not like any of the previous ones maybe except Assault. All I want is cool space dogfights. It seems to be free roaming too so maybe you can get something like Rebel Galaxy? Anyway, I'm excited but seeing how autistic it can be I'm cautious.

If you watch until the 41:00 mark, then you can see what the customization looks like, which is pretty insane. You have the same control over your brushes and transparency/blur/blend effects as you'd have in a real art program. You can even look at the texture for a ship or the wireframe data in order to help get an idea for how it's rendered.

You can also import ANY IMAGE and use it as a stencil which can be sprayed onto the hull. Can't wait to deck something out with swastikas and meatspin.

929adf  No.15479444

Alright, after actually watching the whole trailer, it's still alright. I can just say the switch is truly a gamecube, I bet this will be the Star Fox Adventure of this generation and I will like it too, but

>tonnes of human characters

>Even if the human crew had been smaller and trimmed the redundant characters (you could have all the important dynamics with 3 characters, maximum) I'd be more conciliatory.

All those character will have their pilot figure (with special ability) and spaceship to go with it, basically more characters, more ways to play and ways to mix up those ship bodies, wings, guns and pilots into your combination (which can be done physically with the toys or digitally in game so it can be played in handheld mode).

>>15479185

This isn't a Starfox game. It's Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle for Atlas, the Switch version has the exclusive crossover content of team Starfox integrated into the story (as well as the Arwing toy with the Switch version of the game).

>>15479444 (checked)

>Why?

Because it's a game about spaceships and being able to hot swap their modular segments on the go. Being on foot would make prevent that.

Isn't it just Skylanders but with space-themed toys you have to buy? It is immediately shit just for that gimmick.

Sounds cool and all but Rebel Galaxy needed so much more. I'm thinking in co-op

I can only dream, though.

>>15479787

>basically more characters, more ways to play and ways to mix up those ship bodies

You could have easily done that with Star Fox established characters. Think Star Fox Command, but better. The problem is not "Too many characters", but "Too many shitty OCs". I bet star wolf won't even be part of the game.

>It's Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle for Atlas

Oh. So it's pretty much literally who. No shit nobody can even guess what the fuck it was.

>Because it's a game about spaceships and being able to hot swap their modular segments on the go.

>>15501382

While I seen comments of people with multiple gaming hardware wanting to get the Switch version for the Starfox content alone and some wanting Ubisoft to make a new Starfox game because of this despite that meaning that would make it another Starfox game not made by Nintendo.

The biggest problem I seen is that people want the game but the toy aspect is scaring them off (or even some that think it's like No Man's Sky). Ubisoft has done a terrible job of reinforcing that the toy aspect is completely optional and is probably going to lead to the downfall of the game as uninformed people avoid it all together.

Command had some serious problems, but I think a Command-like game with fixed mechanics and no damn fuel would be welcomed by most sensible players as an interesting evolution of the game's mechanics. Throw in an arcade mode or something for the challenge players and it'd practically print money.

That, or just pick one of Command's endings with a dartboard and see what kind of crazy bullshit they could go with. I'm pretty sure Krystal shacks up with Starwolf in one of the endings, which is funny given her dialogue with Panther in Assault.

>They charge 60 dollars for this type of game that can be finished over the course of several hours. If I were them I'd drop the bullshit and charge 30 dollars per game.

I find it fucking annoying that Miyamoto has stated that Starfox is an "experiential" game series, yet the only experiment they seem to seem to be doing is "how long can we keep this series dead?" It says something when SF Guard got better reviews than Zero but because it was paired up alongside it, it's been forgotten.

>Also they have to STOP remaking Star Fox 64.

If you think of Starfox 64 as a water filled well, they got all the drinking water with the SF64 3D remake and then just hit a near empty well of muddy water with SFZero. The only good thing Zero existence has done is that Nintendo has to either move forward with a new Starfox title or be desperate enough to want to remake the SNES games (because they aren't gonna touch Adventures/Assault because of outsider development) but since they rejected an offer from Q-Games to remake SNES Starfox 1 for the 3DS (after they made SF64 3D) it's probably not going to happen.
