Average for Eternal Darkness where I live is about $40, though on occasion I see it for $25-30 due to pricing fuck ups at a local chain (though I haven't seen it at any in a while). I got mine for $15 complete during the "Fuck stocking the Gamecube" sale fucking Gamestop had way back in 2011.

NiGHTS has unlockable costumes when you play during October and I'll replay the DMC games by then. Haven't finished Zombie Revenge yet, one of the games I liked from the Dreamcast and like God Hand, the lack of jumping didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Apparently Devil May Cry 1 would have also lacked it due to Kamiya's insistence given that it was originally a RES/Biohazard spin off.

I tried Silent Hill 6 months ago, got stuck and then stopped due to boredom.

Resident Evil 1+2, tried 1 figure I have autism or something, really don't like something about it, not knowing much about where to go and having to explore.

I enjoyed 2 but pc ate the aids and had to reinstall OS lost save data.

I'm an indecisive faggot. Which series should I try to play again?

Does RE2 get any better after the sewer section?

Definitely not this half baked piece of shit.

Sure it's scary to have a really limited combat, but it's also extremely frustrating when death is such a chore and you have a limited number of lives and on top of time half the time when you get caught by dogs or a red dude there's no way of getting away without taking damage at least once.

Fuck this game. The combat is extremely steeped in fake difficulty but nobody cares because "muh limited controls". Might as well jump of a building, it's just as scary and you have just as much control over your survival.

I beat Parasite Eve a few weeks ago, but I'm thinking about doing the Chrysler Building challenge in that game. Also, I'll probably play Vagrant Story, just to get a game with ambiance that sorta fits the theme of October. Also, Darkstalkers because why not.

I also might try and play through the first 3 RE games and RE4 for the first time. I only ever fapped to Jill, Claire and Sheeva. Now at least I'll be able to play as them

I've been building up a backlog, and especially recently, noting down games that I should get around to "eventually". This got me thinking about horror.

I beat the first four Silent Hills, first four Resident Evils, as well as Code Veronica X, and Eternal Darkness. Do anons have any recommendations for good horror games, especially obscure ones? I'm aware of Fatal Frame and Siren/Forbidden Siren, how are those? Anything else I'm unaware of? I'm sure there's quite a few I've heard of but have slipped my mind.

I've managed to get my hands on the PS Resident Evil trilogy and Silent Hills 2 and 3, so I suppose I'll be spending my time playing those. I've also gotten some of the handheld Castlevania games so I'm pretty set for October. Looking forward to it too since this will be my first time through these games

Ghost Master. Game about using ghosts to spook mortals.

Unfortunately its less than half-finished due to the publisher going bankrupt mid-development and forcing the devs to tie up loose ends so they can release it for a few last sheckels.

Still very good though despite the balance issues, bugs out the ass, and absolute fuckloads of cut content.

"AllGhosts" Mod, which allows you to use Haunters you unlock in future levels on replays of previous levels

The "RejectedGhosts" mod, which adds back 4 of the cut Haunters into the game.

Both mods only work on a new game, so decide if you want them or not before you start playing.

I actually bought Ghost Master when it was originally released in 2003, still have the disc and manual too.

I beat it at least once a year, and I have probably found every little trick by now.

I also spend a fairly large amount of time looking for info about cut content and any miscellaneous trivia shit I can find. Turns out the guy who did GM's music, Paul Weir, went on to do the music for No Man's Sky

Seriously one of my all-time favorite games despite how much of a blatantly unfinished, bug-filled mess it is.

Its a damn fucking shame that it never got the chance to be completed, it seriously could have been a fucking masterpiece.

Also a bit of a shame that they ditched/weren't able to achieve the moodier dark deco-like tone from the original concept and went with a more generic goofy artstyle style.

Since there's a lot of RE being posted in this thread, I'll dump the versions guide.

As usual, there aren't many differences between later releases. I'll say now, RE4's GCN and Wii versions are the best, PC if you want 'HD'. RE5 and 6 are best played at 60FPS, so try to avoid the PS3 and 360 versions (those also have heavy updates on RE6 due to the amount of quality of life improvements post launch). If you do get the PS3 or 360 versions, get RE5 Gold Edition, as that has all the DLC on the disc (not some shitty download code like lazier companies).

Anyways, my plan to get spooked is to play some classic RE. I was already going to 100% my CVX trophies on PS4 (so close to that Claire A-Rank on Battle Game), then move on to REmake, and I hope to cap everything off with RE1 and RE3 for PS1 (the top two games in the series), and if I feel like it, I'll replay SH1.

Also, I noticed these while digging for the usual guide. An in depth version differences guide for RE2 and 3, as well as a summary of the series story.

The original black label PS2 version is one you're better off avoiding. It lacks the UFO ending found in all other released versions, as well as Born From a Wish (the Maria side game).

The PS2 version did get an updated rerelease, in EU called the Director's Cut version, and in NA it was just the Greatest Hits version. This version comes with all the content that was on the Xbox version.

Silent Hill 2 Restless Dreams is the Xbox release and arguably weaker than Greatest Hits if you care about atmosphere. The PS2 apparently processed certain transparency effects better than most other consoles, meaning that fog and noise effects will show up better on the PS2 version. This isn't a major dealbreaker though, and the Xbox version, in my experience, has always been the cheaper version. While this version ranges from $10-$20, both PS2 versions are commonly priced from $30-$40.

Now, onto the HD Collection release. Don't buy it, it's shit. The classic SH games were famous for being near glitchless (SH3 on PS2 being completely glitchless), and boy does this collection fuck that up. It also famously replaces the VAs, which you can turn off for SH2(not 3 though), but some voices will still be changed when switching over. It does a myriad of other dumb changes, and the new voices are shit, they brought on literal anime VAs and Troy fucking Baker to do them.

Now, you maybe like "I wanted to play SH2 in HD, what do I do now?" Well, you're in luck, as the PC version with a little bit of patching, can be the definitive version. Aside from already mentioned better processing of fog and noise effects on the PS2 versions, the PC version can be scaled to 1080p for true HD (something the HD Collection ironically lacks, as it is only scaled to 720p). It also has all the content of the Xbox release as well as a cutscene viewer. It's also completely acceptable to pirate this as it never got reprinted or released on Steam due to VA contracts, so this is the only one that is free of charge to play (PCSX2 is shit, don't bother).

Is there a name for this type of exploration in video games like in Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, etc. where you go around the location inspecting things with text on the screen describing describing whatever you're inspecting?

What's everyone's current thoughts on REmake 2, now that we have a story trailer showcasing Ada and more of the Leon and Claire scenarios.

Personally, I'm excited. I was never mad about any of the redesigns, so I'm fine with our new Leon, Claire, Sherry and Ada.

I also like the look of the t-103, including the fedora, and I hope we get to see him in action at some point in these trailers. Will he still be a slow moving enemy, or will he be sped up like Birkin clearly has been?

Also hope they add in the man spiders and spiders coming from vents rather than hanging out on the walls. 1.5 had a lot of good ideas in that regard.

I also want some multiple endings going on, RE2 lacked that (unless you want to count ClaireB/LeonB as multiple endings), while both RE1 and RE3 had more than one ending. The zombie bites could be hinting to that, and they could have an optional side objective to get a t-Virus vaccine while in the labs, that is only realized in an obscure file, and if you don't get it, whoever was bit will turn at the end of the game resulting in a Bad ending. Worst ending is where both Leon and Claire are bit and reenact some scenes from certain doujins with Sherry.

The Sourcenext ports for RE2 and RE3 are just the highest resolution for backgrounds and FMVs. Not much is changed between the PC versions. The charts were also made before translations for RE2 Sourcenext were easy to find. RE3 also already had a patch that made Sourcenext near worthless for people on PC, that being the Envrionmental Graphics patch, which puts it on par with the Sourcenext release.

They can also be called 3D Point and Clicks, as that's basically what they are (fuck Telltale for ruining Point and Clicks).

Im anally devastated about the remake not being like REmake, but i gotta hand it to them, the game looks amazing graphics wise and the gameplay looks tight as fuck, maybe it will turn out to be actually good.

The thing im pissed about is claire's re-design, unlike other anons here i dont see her being ugly, i just think her new outfit makes her look like a discount zoey, wich is sad because zoey was a discount claire.

I do like what they have shown thus far, with marvin having more screentime and apparently more RPD officers being alive in the police station, also, ada and mr. X noire look amusing.

That's a fair criticism, but I'm not too upset about REmake 2 being a TPS. I'd prefer fixed cameras, but there's nothing wrong with the REv2 style (in fact, I enjoyed REv2 more than any of the TPS games besides maybe 5).

Wasn't there supposed to be another RPD officer side character in 1.5 and the beta for RE2 that had a major role in the story? Maybe they'll add that back in, as well some other stuff from the betas for RE2.

I like their look, and I'm fully expecting there to be an unlockable 'Original Costumes' mode where everyone is decked out in their classic gear, but what I really want is 'Noire mode', where everyone is running around in trench coats, sunglasses and fedoras, except the t-103 and Ada who are just wearing their normal clothes. Or at the very least, a mode where all the zombies wear fedoras.

i might try to play through Pathologic again, never got past day 4, but theres no better game for fall imo (except maybe STALKER)
