If you hit a wall don't you dare lower the difficulty, just craft better equipment.

Ship monster drops you think you'll want to bulk buy back, Raven will randomly sell them in her inventory

Walk slowly to sneak up on birds and throw them at people. Fuck everyone up, there's no downside.

Forte is the only character willing to travel with you below 3 hearts so make use of her. She heals, she buffs, she's a decent meat shield and she's cute.

Hoard all of your weeds, do not scythe. Especially wilted/dry weed.

Try to complete all of the mailbox's personal requests, get as many of them out of the way you can per day.

If you find a pineapple juice drop somewhere DO NOT SELL IT. For whatever fucking reason the recipe for it is level 99 and in addition can only be learned by a post-endgame item. Unlike a lot of the recipes in-game that you have a chance to stumble upon yourself and thus learn the recipe accidentally, you cannot make this drink until you have learned the recipe and have the adequate skill level. You need it for a request somewhat early on.

If you drop something in water you can fish back it out.

Rune Prana is so fucking good but the conclusion is so fucking bad. The final act isn't anything special, it's just one big dungeon. If you loved the gameplay before this point then it's worthwhile to unlock. Here's a way to force it: put Amber and Horsecock in your party and keep going to sleep until both need to leave. Check the diary for the Shiny Memories event. If that's not it, reload and try again. You can get married early using this method.

This game was amazing on halfchan/vg/ during release, everyone learning the autism mechanics together and sharing shit. Rune Factory 5 never.

It's worth considering playing the undub version due to how many voice clips are in tha game, but I wouldn't suggest much else before you start playing. Do remember to craft equipment though, there isn't really any way around crafting to make equipment good enough to do later dungeons without cheesing using powerful allies.

There's a /u/ mod, kind of, it still needs sprite swapping so you also need to save edit/use NTR cheats early game but it does allow you to play full yuri options once it's working. Though you should really just try actually beating the game or you'll probably never clear it. Of course if you just play through the tutorial or a little further past that and go back to your main file once you remember the gist of it that's fine, but actually getting to the real ending takes a pretty long time if RNG decides to fuck you on the last couple of events so if you keep restarting I can assure you you'll just end up repeating yourself again.

I've honestly never considered any of the male bachelors when playing, though I did initally think the prince was a girl when I'd only seen the sprite and hadn't actually talked to him yet.

I fell out of playing it a while ago and never finished. Been thinking about it again recently, so I should probably restart and go all the way. But I could never decide between Dolce or Forte. That's not a decision a man can make. If there's a God, why would he make me choose?

I don't think that's the case, every weapon is potentially useful, are you sure your daggers aren't just a higher craft level than your other weapons or a higher skill level? Also have you actually levelled your other weapon skills up enough to get access to all basic skills and found any of the Y/X slot weapon specific skills?

The problem with magic is that you both have to find the good spells and also level your magic ability, which means that by the time you get to the point where RP replenishment isn't a big issue you're already dozens of levels higher in weapons due to how expensive magic is in early game. Even when you do catch up offensive magic is still not dramatically better than weapons to make it worthwhile to use them.

The good thing about this game is that that won't happen. If you get stuck simply farm (literally), craft, and git gud. And in the meantime you can also try to get some waifus.

I'm still mad about that shit. The worst part is Marvelous scooped up the whole Rune Factory team when that happened making it look like they could revive the series, but then nothing. I've noticed an improvement in the Story of Seasons (real Harvest Moon) games since then so I guess they're working on that now, but I just can't go back after Rune Factory.

Yes, you gain eating exp the first time you eat something each day. Almost all the things that NPCs say are hints. The crafting is deep as fuck but also barely explained at all. Most hidden mechanics are only mentioned by the random faceless NPCs, and vaguely at that. Some things, like the rarity value assigned to all items, are completely hidden and you need to check a guide to find them (unless you go through the tedious slog of testing each item until you find the exact value, which the guide people did anyway). The game has so much hidden shit that it took people years to find all (?) of it. If you craft the highest rank tool and include a light ore and the highest rank fishing pole in the base recipe, it gains an extra charge level with increased range and no RP cost. You will want to read the various guides and stickied threads on gamefaqs once you get to the endgame, because it's practically impossible to find all the secret shit in RF4 on your own.

Amber is cute, and so are Dolce and the chink girl whose name I never remember. Never play as a girl because all the guys are ultra gay.

For some reason the developers thought that it would be a good idea to tie the story events triggering to RNG. This means that to progress you have to save scum or get lucky. I've heard some people report that it took more than 2 years in game time to trigger certain events whereas some people have it trigger in a week or something. Personally I think after a month I ended up save scumming over 50 times to trigger the event.

Well RF4 does this, but there's no way to force an event. The game will randomly pick what event happens next and that will take over several days of your game time. This includes friendship events, or general town fuckery.

Like a character and have the ability to marry them, but haven't seen their event yet? Better pray to the RNG god that you aren't waiting too long for their event to be randomly picked

This also extends to end game, once you've beaten the story the game adds an event to the pool of potential ones to unlock the end game dungeon to bring back certain characters.

However you cannot unlock this dungeon until you've seen the event, and it's down to the RNG god if you ever see it.

There have been complaints of people playing for years in game and not seeing it, while others report getting it early.

No one answered you, but I will.

I wish gifts weren't the primary mode of grinding affection. It's not that it's hard or anything, it's just that it makes everyone seem a bit shallow. Plus, despite requiring different items and thus giving them some personality, in the end you're still just hunting down the gifts everyone likes to give them, and when you are focusing someone, you'll be gifting the same thing with mostly the same reaction every day, making it boring.

I'd prefer if there were more factors to it, like having reputations. Different things you do can earn you a title, you can have at most 3 titles with the 3 biggest values dictating what titles you get at any time. Kill a lot of monsters and you're the Slayer. Make a lot of veggies in your farm and you're Farmer Jack. Give a lot of gifts and you're Generous, etc.

Then everyone has a reputation they resonate with and every day you win more affection with them if you have that trait, also doubling any greeting bonus from talking with them.

Other factors could include learning some skills, like a witch girl that you earn affection with according to how high your magic skills are, or a blacksmith aprentice that judges you based on your crafting skills, etc.

The size of your farm and how long you spend working on it, how social you are, how much you contribute to the town, etc.

Also have different times of day to socialize, not just once, and different times yield different results. Meeting people at night in a tavern for a chat and buying everyone a drink besides greeting them in the afternoon.

A controversial idea would be to make some conflicting choices here. Let's say there's a girl that will swoon over you for your physique, but thinks books are for nerds while there's a sorcerer that will love you for learning The Art but thinks you're a muscle freak if you get too strong. Getting friends with one would make the other like you less.

Same thing for reputations, Forte might apreciate that you're a Slayer but Amber probably will dislike that. An outgoing girl will love talking with the guy that's friends with everyone, while the shy girl will be intimidated by that and would prefer someone quiet like her, etc.

That's just relationships, but there's more the game could have for the economy, I suppose. However how comfy it'd be, I dunno.

My heart belonged to Shinonome, but obviously that was not to be, so I ended up going with Tuna since I felt I should probably settle down with the girl who would have the most trouble opening up to another person that much again, which meant either her or Sophia. For 4, I just haven't really fallen for anyone. In terms of physical attractiveness Illuminata and Forte top the chart, whereas as far as interaction dynamic goes the lead's relationship with Selza is probably the best, but then only one of those is marriageable anyway.
