Metroid High School is either an intentional riff on awful fanfics right down the author having made a persona of being a middle school girl, or accidentally so bad it's good tier. Either way it's so retarded that it becomes a great comedy. But the few actually good fanfics I know of were anime related: Unlucky Star (an Index fanfic started by an /a/non eight years back and even got fanart to go with it), at least up through what I read of it back in the day, and Gurren Jesus.

X-SGCOM is a crossover between X-COM and Stargate SG-1. I remember it being pretty good and the characters from the show being on spot.

I find I can't read straight vidya fics as most of them do nothing for me. Every once in a while find a crossover I enjoy and it's even more surprising when it's something you would think would be a total trainwreck, but isn't.

I don't have to justify anything. It's one fic I have enjoyed out of thousands and will stand or fall on its own merit. Calling it "Fallout but with horses" is doing a grim disservice to the way Kkat figured out the right way to do a crossover, as opposed to many fic authors' trite and hackneyed "Lol character x on site y wat do" approach.
