Not really. The genius fucked with the combat system and now the whole game breaks with the rabbit kick move. Instead of this powerful move that needs the right opening to use, it's now the most useful and the most fun attack fo use, except nothing can counter it.

Lugaru was a legit excellent little sophomore indy effort, I tinkered with it clear back when he was passing around alphas in GamerAnger chat, having achieved some fame for Black Shades in the iDevGames circle. The combat was simple and elegant, yet with a reasonable amount of depth. Its main drawbacks like Oni before it were a lack of multiplayer, and bland levels.

Overgrowth is, sad to say, a stereotypical example of solid mechanics being dragged down by typical Early Access impulsive featuritis, refusing to lock down the game's design and crank out enough assets to justify a $30 single-player/coop game. Instead, the dev turned developing the engine itself into a perpetual hobby, leaving the SP campaign unfinished, and frequently breaking combat balance.

Also, the game's reputation as furshit is exaggerated, since the artstyle doesn't have that horrendous copypasted style (human-like faces, skinlike fur, human proportions e.g. plantigrade feet on everything, etc.) that furries invariably use, and the game's themes derive from non-furshit like Redwall instead of lame ero fanfic. That said, the dev is definitely an oversensitive baby.

It had a lot of interesting potential, but it's ultimately just a tech demo. No denying that the furfag can code, but his work ethic is shit and he can't really shape his ideas into a coherent project with a reasonable scope. How many fucking months did he toil away at this little passion project only to release some silly new tool or the ability to change the distance of the sun? If he just focused on making a goddamned game instead of jacking himself raw over all these little autistic details, maybe people would care about his games. Instead, he's stuck running an e-begging scheme for shitty charities like Girls Who Code.

I pirated it a while back and finished the campaign. Overall the movement is good but the combat is piss easy (especially if you just spam that jump kick move). Would've been great if they completed the game back in 2012 or something.
