>Enjoy these slice of life games with rpg mechanics
>Tfw i literally cannot name one outside of handhelds on modern console but StarDew Valley.
Don't get me wrong Stardew is fun enough. But it lacks the cosy charm of other series stuck in handheld purgatory. Meanwhile the Harvest Moon devs lost the name and some cucks put out shitty minecraft voxelshit riding the name on mobage quality trash and legend of the riverking turned into sub pokemon go level gameplay.
Maybe its just autistically niche and anything remotely life sim-ish outside of Germany and its autistic sim maniac market doesn't have a significant audience outside but man, i just miss those comfy games with light jrpg mechanics where you are living a countryside life of cosy good times.
Do you feel this feel i am feeling deeply?

I mean animal crossing is still going. And I believe the Harvest moon nogs sold their shit or moved or whatever to the Rune Factory series. Breddy gud. Also story of seasons.
But there's tons of little autistic niche titles like recettear (maybe butchered spelling) and My time at Portia (Early Access, kinda ew)
That's just all I could think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there will be more to come and some I missed. Just buy a soytch and wait for next animal crossing and get that sweet, sweet escapism then.

Story of Seasons is Harvest Moon. The company that localizes Bokujō Monogatari, Natsume, are fucking jews that continually did a shitty job of porting the game and so the Japanese developers told them to fuck off. Natsume owns the rights to the english Harvest Moon brand, though, so when the devs switched to in-house publishing, they had to change the name of the game to Story of Seasons.
Now fans refer to newer Harvest Moon titles as Natsume Moon to differentiate the Bokujō Monogatari series from the shitty cash-grab that Natsume made.

I tried Graveyard Keeper but holy shit does it suck.
And it's all because of a simple mechanic: tool degradation.
It's not like your tools are the best around to begin with, yet somehow they made them degrade, as if the flimsy energy bar wasn't enough to keep you from being able to do fuck all.
I hate this kind of delay bullshit to make you feel as if the game is longer that it has any right to be.
ec0eeb No.15427111
There's Little Dragon Cafe, which is made by the guy that created Harvest Moon, which is supposed to be decent but not great. I haven't tried it yet.
But fucking hell would I kill for a comfy River King game with a focus on exploring places to find new watering holes and new fish, in between engaging in fishing competitions and making sure you earn enough to keep your family fed and sheltered.
Fishing is the best mini-game in any RPG.

1 is good, but very grindy.
2 is considered to be worst one of all of these from numerous reasons.
You needed to grind relationship with villagers to unlock proper part of game and if you took too long some choices were locked by them marrying someone else. Grindy as previous one.
3 changed franchise most, it's also easiest one. Don't start with that one, previous ones will become complete pain to play.
4 has most content, but also had some weird decisions for gameplay.

Stonehearth's pretty neat. It's mechanics are simple enough for a comfy experience but there's some nifty shit there I wish other games had as well.
Like when you start building a house and you plan furniture there, it's automatically added to the workshops that can make it for instance.
I also like how it handles the terrain allowing you to dig tunnels and see cutouts of the land. Makes me want to try making an underground city and live like a proper dwarf.
Last update I checked they were working on fluid mechanics, so there's probably some great stuff coming.
Also, if you like or at least don't mind the artstyle of Stonehearth, there's Staxel:

What was that PS1/PS2 game about summer and fishing or some shit?

cccc12 No.15444208
It's a relatively untapped market because of humble sales.
Rune Factory 4 is the best selling game of the series and it's sold over half a million units. 3+ years ago they were celebrating 200,000 units sold in America with a price drop.
But I doubt it's ever reached the million mark, and that's the best selling one. The other titles are far more humble in sales.
Stardew Valley is a surprising success story with 3.5+ million copies sold. I would have hoped that this would inspire others to contribute to the subgenre, but given we haven't seen any news yet it's a good chance they won't.
I think it's a problem for larger publishers and studios looking into the subgenre because it simply wouldn't work on commonly utilised engines and doesn't offer much room for monetisation.
For the likes of EA, this wouldn't work with the Frostbite engine and unlike other games with a reliance on short term gratification over a long term period (which is ideal for monetisation) this relies on long term investment for gratification (which is difficult to implement monetisation that doesn't ruin the game). Others would share the same issue trying to get into the subgenre.
Another example like Animal Crossing is both successful and niche in its own ways, and Pocket Camp is the perfect example of how modernising the formula ruins it.

There's Graveyard Keeper. It's essentially a smaller, looser Stardew Valley with more emphasis in the story and mechanics than the villagers. Even the fishing minigame is almost copied from Stardew Valley.
It's still in development and there's some issues there, but the art style is a lot better than Stardew and there's some neat gameplay there as well.
>doesn't offer much room for monetisation
That's not true. You know how you can take a bus to visit the Calico Desert in Stardew Valley? It's a whole new area with different materials, NPCs and more stuff to get.
Well, DLC and expansions for newer areas could work, giving the player a new place to visit and find out new things.
Or simply expanding the recipes and crops with more flowers\vegetables, new animal types both wild and in the farm. Some later games give you outfits, something you could sell as cosmetics too.
Shit, they could sell waifus! NPCs that move into town and you can marry! Animal Crossing has NPCs rotate around, imagine if something like that happened in Harvest Moon and you could buy DLC to add more waifus into the pool of possible NPCs?

Yo-Kai Watch 2 - Even though it's kind of a goofy game, setting and theme-wise, the autists at Level5 do a fantastic job of filling out their worlds with an unbeatable comfy feel. The 2nd game involves a plotline where you visit your Grandma in "Harrisville" (actually rural Japan, but localizers gon' localize) and it's a cozy little mountain village in the countryside. Once the plot gets going, you actually travel back 60 years when everything was even simpler and faintly sepia toned.
I don't know if I can recommend the series on gameplay or depth alone, but in terms of feel and comfyness, the series is pretty great. I played the shit out of YW2 last summer and it really heightened that childlike summer mood I haven't had in years. Gave me all kinds of nostalgia for spending my summers in rural Maine, running around the forest and making chunks of old wood into swords.
