It's going to be so poz. Larry wakes up from the toxic waste storage of 1987 so I'm sure the rest of the game is just going to be a long propaganda piece rebuilding his character out of soy. Once again, Al Lowe has nothing to do with this game.

Larry is dead.
The thing is, Larry was a parody of a very specific type of individual endemic to the mid 1980's. The aging 70's swinger who was once at the top of the game, but now doesn't have the self-awareness to realize that they world they ruled was dead and gone. I knew some of these people first hand, though I didn't recognize them for what they were at the time since I was just a kid. By the 90's, the act had already been stretched well beyond the point of credulity, and Larry's popularity was tied to the adventure game industry which was still a dominant market. By Love for Sail, it was all but dead itself.
Bringing Larry back now, for anything other than nostalgia bait, is just life imitating art. It has become the parody of the type of person that Larry originally was a parody of - a past their prime fragment of yester-year still trying desperately to hold on to their former glory, and being utterly blind to the fact that they haven't even the slightest bit of relevance to today's world. The original parody has lost all meaning in the void of time. Those people he was originally parodying are either withered old men now, or dead. He looks more like a Yakuza parody, than anything modern audiences are familiar with from daily experience. Maybe if they got meta and played on THAT angle, perhaps… but I don't see that happening, especially from a "fan" project.
Holy shit, how did I never notice before that Kiryu is wearing Tony Montoya's outfit? That has to be intentional.

No matter how good or bad it turns out, I'll bet you anything that this game will get the same unfair treatment that Duke Nukem Forever got. The mainstream outlets and reviewers are going to use this chance to virtue signal against the LSL series. Calling his games a "sexist relic" from gaming's "misogynistic past". And unless this entry bends over backwards to be soyboy friendly (like God of Soy did), expect it to get low 3.5/10 ratings from biased critics.

I'm forever going to be bitter for all the neat new things we have, some old charm unavoidably gets lost as the years go by.
Games, songs, cartoons and movies in the past can't be made today even if we still have ones now that are quality in their own right. Their cultural inspiration they reflect and come from and need to be great in spite of and because of their limitations has faded. I feel over the course of things like GamerGate and Trump we've learned all kinds of horrible corrupt secrets about the world and humanity itself that make things like joking about Bill Clinton now depressing and fucking infuriating. Some kind of "fun" spirit that fueled the 70s, 80s and 90s is just lost to us now and I fucking loathe it.

tl;dw, Affluent people buy so emotionally that they actually want to know less about the products they buy, not more. Worse yet, they want to pay more for the things they buy, because they think it means they have the best, which lets them feel special.

That's some fringe level vocabulary. The kind of vocabulary used by people who think kids should have "undefined" as gender until they're old enough to choose what they identify with.
Worst part is, it's people like this the ones deciding what kind of tone is acceptable in vidya now.
Regarding the game, I will pass. Just give me a Larry 8 with Al Lowe's involvement, with the same artistic direction as Larry 7 and I'm set. Anything else are just "fan games" I don't give a rat's ass about.
