This crossed my radar earlier today.

So a games company out of fucking nowhere owned by LeYou (same guys who own Digital extremes who made Warfame) are making a new Middle Earth based F2P MMORPG

Reminder that Amazon is making a Lotr TV series and it will be filled with blacks and women

Believe it or not, Lord of The Rings Online is *still* up and allegedly even getting updates still, though the game is old as balls and basically dead for all intense and purposes. I remember playing it back in the day and having a lot of fun with it. It was a game that had heart.

I didn't make this thread because of the fact that a new Lord of The Rings MMO is being made it's 2018, MMORPGs aren't going to sell like they used to but the fact that I have noticed this trend increasing eerily, Chinese companies acquire companies, teams, make generic shit tier games and churn them out for shekles. It's like mass producing video games.

if you have the basic idea of how the Chinese does business then you know it's pretty much stealing technology from other countries and imitating shit to sell back to them.

This is why we can't have good games. Making a good game takes too much money and time for what it's worth. F2p Shovelware will attract the dumbest of people to buy lootboxes upon lootboxes of trash. But I needn't tell /v/ of all people that simple statement.

I feel that your theory doesn't 100% match up, OP.

Chinks have a tendency to steal, yes. But the sharing of roots with Digital Extremes indicate they'll probably be making some peer2peer MMO that you'll probably play with 4 people max.

Peer2peer MMO's usually have some sort of gameplay to compensate for the fact that they're laggy broken pieces of shit. The question then is; what kind of game are they going to make? Will it be hacky slashy or tab target?

Will it be open world with a maximum of 4 players like the recent Warframe open world content, or just missions that are basically a straight line?

Truth is, this area isn't actually that easy to plain copy; there's a ton of variation!

Maybe they'll copy an existing successful franchise and pass it off as their own idea. But then what are they gonna copy? Vindictus? Dungeon Fighter?

To me, this shit only raises more questions than anything.

Sage because shovelware has always been a thing and we really don't have anything to talk about.

To be fair, Anon. The books are the least likely thing to be shat on, there's not any chance that there's going to be yet another book made in the current year, Christopher Tolkein wouldn't allow it.

Christopher Tolkein isn't much to do with Middle Earth Enterprises anymore which is why shit like this is being allowed to be made. But the books are still under his protection IIRC
