Video games aren't political statements. Even if a game has story driven political themes in there that doesn't make them propaganda for whatever camp you perceive those politics to fall in, you fucking loon. Much less is it an invitation to derail a thread.

Shitting on a game with forced agenda pushing or other glaring issues isn't the problem and frankly should be encouraged, derailing an on-topic thread for the slightest whiff of political ranting (often instigated for no apparent reason) or witch hunting for the slightest bit of "wrongthink" is.

Saying "well that's how it is now" isn't an argument to let shitflinging loose on every thread.

Agreed. What bothers me though is the amount of retards who willingly shit the thread up even more by replying to it in a manner that only invites escalation. Moderation can be fucking sloppy in that regard. Sometimes they do ban/remove bait posts but leave the dozens of replies that have nothing to do with the thread up. It turns the thread into an even bigger mess because you'll then get people entering asking "hurr what happened?" and idiots screeching about "rulecucks". At that point you may as well give the thread a mercy killing because there's no saving it at that point.

I think there is some inseparable element between politics and video games. In most cases, it's not because video games are overtly political, but because someone is hoisting up their political views with a video game. And that can be through the game being made with some political theme in mind, or someone taking the 8th grade English teacher approach and claiming that Megaman Battle Network 2 represents gender-fluid Marxism or whatever. In varying degrees, there is a connection.

But that part isn't the real issue. The issue is folks whose entire focus in on the political. Folks who perceive every action as the last straw, every second is the right time for action, and every place is a battlefield. Throw them the fuck out. The rules are already in place for this, they simply need be applied or enforced. I want to see video games on /v/, and not much more outside of that. Anyone saying “/v/ is /pol/” or unironically using the word “comrade” should get banned. It doesn't need to be permanent, just clear them out for a bit.

There was a good example of a gray area recently: the Jacksonville shooting. There were threads on both /v/ and /pol/ and they both focused on their respective topics. /v/ was busy making light of a tragedy, making memes and webms, and it was a delight. /pol/ was busy trying to reconstruct the event as a false flag and predict how guns were going to be grabbed this time. I think we should have more of this, namely video game threads on /pol/. Instead, the current paradigm is /pol/ waddles over to /v/, picks a thread at random, and begins to accuse everyone of being whatever boogeyman they believe in.

/pol/ and /leftypol/do not contribute to /v/. They don't have any interest in the board's topic. They are only here to talk about the only thing they ever talk about.
