I just played Blood 2 for the first time about an hour ago. Not worth it, especially since I had to spend 30 min downloading and installing fixes for it first. The original Blood is good though, if you use BloodGDX. If you're looking for side-scrollers you might want to try Momodora 4.

How old is the kid?
If he can't even figure out pressing every button until one does the thing he wants and then remembering it, he might not even be able to play most games.
The classic SNES and Genesis romsets with simple emulators are the best bet, specially when it comes to sidescrollers.
Back in the day I had a pre-configured SNES emulator on a disc that some dude gave my dad. Figured out that every game used Z, X, A, S and such and then just tried it out when playing the games until I got what every button did. I didn't even speak english at the time.
Well, most Genesis games only use one or two buttons, anyways, so ironically, the classic Sonic games might just be right up this kid's alley.

Palemoon is fine. The dev's issue with AdNauseam is if he doesn't set it as a malware addon his own site, the forums and the start page he uses for his browser will be flagged by advertisers as being involved in click fraud and then he won't make any money. Since this browser project is a full time job and the only revenue he gets is from advertising he had no choice but to do this if he wants to keep it alive. You can still use AdNauseam it just takes a change in the about:config settings which he explains how to do in that thread.
That Tobin guy is a prick but he is right about the licensing issues in this case. They don't want or allow third parties hosting the browser with official branding without their permission as in the past malware has been included with the browser, Firefox had a similar issue with Debian years back. They also use their own(often outdated and exploitable) libraries which isn't the more secure approach OpenBSD takes anyways. It should have never been in that repository for several reasons.
For an open source project these issues are incredibly minor compared to what Mozilla has done in the last few years with Firefox. Injecting ads for some television show into the browser while spying on users, implementing closed source DRM after being advocates for a free internet for well over a decade, the disasters that were Pocket, Firefox OS, Things Gateway. I could go on.

If you're going to be poor about it at least be shrewd. I got a lot of 10 laptops from a lab sell off from a university and they at least only had XP on it (proper toaster gaming OS) and 3 of them had dedicated workstation graphics cards. The only thing they were light on was RAM but fuck it. They played everything up to about ~2005 and I still used one of them to run Wings 3D.
