I love that bit of lore right there, the Orz are amongst the most unlikely of the species in that game to board an enemy vessel yet thats their favored combat tactic, you wouldn't think of dimensional alien fishes as being ship boarder yet here they are.

You're right about the tactic making sense for their background but I meant mostly what I posted as them looking innocuous enough (then you learn about them and they get pretty freaky), as in their appearance doesn't really make you extrapolate their way of attacking other ships.

It's basically the game that inspired the mass effect franchise, you explore the galaxy in your space ship from a top down perspective (the combat is also done in a similar fashion), exploring the stars and planets for ressources (a bit like how mass effect 1 did it except in a top down lander unit). The best part about the game in my opinion is meeting the different alien civilizations and races and the exposition they give you about the game universe and sometimes giving you crucial information to the main mission of the game, combat is also pretty fun and you get lots of different ships to try and use for your fleet (you get 12 ships slot beside your flagship, the ships fight in 1v1 in a top down space arena of sorts.

Get UQM, its completely reworked with voice acting (the voice acting is amazing in this game) , HD graphics and bug fixes. Plus its free to download (I put a link to it in the OP).

You should definitely get it since its just 750mb and its about 10 hours of gameplay (with a walkthrough, theres a few beginner traps but apart of that it may take up to twice that amount and more if you do it as if you were playing in 92 without the internet).

It's hard to tell you anything about the game without spoiling it as just gathering information in this game is one of its feature, you can get this info from some sources but I could give it to you as a spoiler right there that might prevent you from having to restart everything after realizing you fucked up you got a time limit of around 4 years from the start to finish the game.

Also as a spoilerless tip I recommend you get as much shit done as you can on every trips (dont take too much your time), try to get diplomatic efforts and ressources gathering efforts done in the same trips.

The Chenjesu and Mmrnmhrm are a match for both Ur-Quan subraces, but they severely lack numbers and ability to create more of their species (which is part of why they combine.) I would say that the Chenjesu in particular are basically like "The Master Race/Species of the galaxy" and are only lacking in fighting capabilities (which The Mmrnmhrm possess, despite only being colonization robots for another super advanced species that has yet to enter SC2 region of space.) Commander Hayes explains all of this in detail. Chmmr are supposed to be even better, but Star Control 3 was a failure and never got into why they are so great. Also, I believe the Dynarri cannot control Chmmr because they are like Taalo.

I didnt play much with the super melee mode but I packed 8 chmmr avatars for the sa-matra battle and really breezed through it (with still 2 avatars to spare by the end despite my shitty piloting skills).

I'd say the orz could be a match for the Ur-quan or even the dnyarri since the real strength they have is never showed, they are probably immune to mind control since they come from another dimension (they also say the Taalo are in their origin dimension and they were immune to the hypnotoads) and who knows how many of them are left to pour into real space from their realm.

Thats actually some pretty nice lore and I actually missed that even when I played through the game, the avatar is certainly strong enough to easily beat one or more Ur-quan korh-ah or kzer-za dreadnoughts so I would see how they finish them up after destroy the sa-matra .
