I haven't seen any talk about this game, so let's have a thread about it. If you've ever played the Scythe tabletop then this already looks familiar. This game also reminds me a lot of an old PS2 game called Ring of Red. It had the same general idea as this one, only it was turn based and kind of shit. I liked the idea of beginning-of-the-century technology mechs, and Iron Harvest looks pretty interesting in that regard. The creators cite Company of Heroes and Men of War as inspirations, so it could be pretty good. There was a kickstarter for this and all their goals were met, too. I have to admit that I'm not good at any RTS games, but I might just try this out for the soviet-themed robots.

Stalin had four children. Yakov Dzugashvili, the guy you are talking about, never really got along with his old man after the latter crushed his plans to marry the Jewish girl Zoya Gunina. Yakov immediately showcased how much of a failure he was by trying (and failing) to commit suicide that evening, aiming a gun for his heart but only hitting his lungs instead.
To the best of my knowledge he never actually met his father for the first 14 years of his life. Not that I want to say that Stalin wasn't a thorough sociopath. That brain tumor they found on him during his autopsy probably had something to do with it.

I'm also not really sold on the game. The gameplay videos looked anemic and combining mechs and WW1 just seems weird considering it was primarily an infantry affair, mechanization only playing a role very late in the war.

Ignoring the fact that this seems to have turned into another flagrantly obvious /leftypol/ consensus cracking thread, it was looking very promising in the mock-ups, but as has already been said, the gameplay looks slow, stiff, and the UI has very strange choices, large Total War style unit cards at the screen bottom instead of top corner tiny unit cards ala Company of Heroes. It's mystifying as to why they didn't just go for a minimalist CoH UI wholesale as it seemed they were intending, the waste of space is huge. The sound needs serious work, it's very flat and weak right now. The very limited suite of animations is offputting, I especially don't like the Saxony MG mech having one over-flourished firing animation and no sustained fire followon bursts. The mechs waddle ridiculously slowly, suggesting there might not be any real fast response/attack units or if there are any they'll be few in number, possibly only existing in one or two of the three factions, and turn the balance on its head when used to their maximum. It was a neat idea, but it looks like they're going to starve the golden goose before it lays any eggs. Very unfortunate.

>The first tanks worked. They rolled forwards over trenches and barbed-wire and shot at the enemy, then they got better.
The first tanks (specifically, those fielded by the Brits) were living death traps whose crew was constantly immersed in murderous heat, noise, and exhausts from the engine which was housed right in the middle of the damn thing, to the point that entire crews would lose consciousness during prolonged drives or faint when exposed to fresh air again.
The vehicles also were prone to getting stuck in trenches or simply coming to a complete halt due to engine failures, and the Germans had come up with ammo which punched right through the allegedly impenetrable armor. The entire legendary reputation of the early (again, British) tanks mostly came from the British propaganda which portrayed them as a kind of wonder weapon, to the point that tanks were sent into British cities in order to sell war bonds. Fuck's sake, some fags came up with a ballet
That being said, you do have a point about mechs being impractical for trench warfare. Hells, they are completely impractical altogether. What you want is a low profile, not a towering colossus which all but physically screams "Shoot me in the fucking face pls kkthxbye". At the very best, I could imagine some very light walkers whose raised cockpit could make them useful for reconnaissance, or them being more of a terror weapon because seeing a giant, vaguely man-shaped hunk of steel stomping towards you probably would make every man shit his pants.

Mechs aren't supposed to be practical, they are supposed to be cool. The issues about obstacles you mention are incredibly minor compared to the engineering problems of getting all the parts moving to begin with, considering the weight and amount, especially when you'd have to put several motors just for that.
And keep it all reliable they can be used in life or death situations, of course.
>>15381663
I've heard discussions about this before and there were a few scenarios where mechs could potentially be usefull, but they are either quite contrived or very specific.
The higher vantage point to hang weapons on gives them slightly longer range for instance, they are also capable of swapping weapons more easily and even use power tools for logistic purposes. They have trouble with obstacles that tracks do not, but they can climb over larger inclines than tracks can.

>See? No one was talking about who did what how. But noo, Poland just has to brag about their only military success in centuries (which was completely negated in 1939 in less than a month).
What the fuck are you even talking about? "Gee Poland made a game based off of it's own fucking history, they must be bragging about their military succes! It's not like people of a certain country like to make things based off of ideas inherent to that country's culture!"

Mechs have two primary advantages over tanks: they only need one person to operate, and they take up less horizontal space (important in urban settings). Otherwise they lose to tanks by virtually all other metrics.
I suspect that we might see small exosuits to increase a soldier's firepower and mobility, but armoring them would probably be a waste: the enemy would just field more powerful small arms and defeat armored exos easily. Also the power requirements to move that kind of armor around will be prohibitive for some time yet. As for going full mecha, it's a large expense for such a vulnerable "armored" unit. Not to say there aren't uses for them, particularly in riot control and certain asymmetric warfare conditions, but generally it's not worth it.
Going back to exosuits, increasing the average soldier's mobility and firepower would be a big deal, considering infantry still dominate the battlefield. These could absolutely be viable if they can get the costs down and figure out an easy way to keep the batteries topped up.

In a desperate attempt to get the thread back onto the rail:
What would you think if the primary disadvantage of mechs was not so much their shape or size, but rather their gigantic turning radius? Leaving aside that option that the damn things simply have movable turrets, sneaking up from a mech from behind would give you plenty of time to shoot it - unlike a tank, which can simply turn around on the spot.

How do we know there was a Soviet-Polish war in this alternate reality? It was not even mentioned that Polania was a part of Rusviet.

Thanks for the video, but this is a bit of a disapointment. There's very few units and even fewer buildings, plus it doesn't seem like you can build outside of your base.
It's also sad that we're still at the "here's 2 resources, one for infantry, the other for vehicles, used when building" when there's a lot better things that can be done with this.
I was expecting Iron to be used for construction of everything but Oil to be a "maintenance resource" replenished by controlling refineries and drained by your mechs so the number of mechs you could control would depend on how many refineries you control, stockpiling some in case the oponent takes them down to bleed you out of oil. Your mechs would stop work entirely if you ran out of oil, forcing you to use infantry instead.
Also, same shit for infantry but with Food instead, severely making them worse in combat if you don't have any food stored, coming from farms spread around the map. Maybe even have village centers or similar buildings periodically sending you Recruits and that's the resource used (in conjunction with a small amount of Iron) to make more soldiers.
There's Soviets in the game, it makes sense that starving them to death should be a strategy after all!
It looks like a beautifull fun game with nice aesthetics and all, but it also seems quite simple and will be forgotten shortly after being released, sadly. It has a unique setting but the gameplay really isn't unique at all.

Mechas suck, power armor is where it's at. Not so much in trench fighting, but can useful in urban warfare and does requires as much suspension of disbelief.

Agreed. It's not even so much the armor but the ability to carry heavy loads - and more specifically, heavy weapons and the weighty armor they require.

Concerning powered armor, I'd recommend watching Farewell to Arms.
It's probably the best and most realistic depiction of powered armor I've ever seen.

If we're talking about mecha in general, let me just say that I'm really dissapointed that there is close to none western super robot media. It's like every single mecha creator in the west wants only to take the "slightly more realistic and believable war machine approach", which is cool in it's own right but I would love to see something silly and 100% based on rule of cool made by westerners.

>they only need one person to operate, and they take up less horizontal space
I just remenbered that there was a bit of a revolution in naval warfare with battleships having cannons at the front since they could form a battleline that had far more units in the same space, thus bringing more guns to the fight and giving them an amazing advantage.
I'd wager there'd be something similar (but not quite the same) with Mechs since you could field several of them with a lot more guns in a single battleline too, but then again the rules of warfare in land might not allow for this tactic.
>if they can get the costs down and figure out an easy way to keep the batteries topped up.
Good batteries are currently the biggest limiting factor in many, many things actually. Powerstorage isn't as simple or efficient as most people believe so the next big advancement that can change humanity will be powerfull portable batteries.

To be honest when I think about it, a lot of mecha operate under the idea that it's more like gigantic power armour rather than tank-esque machine although that differs from example to example. Both eastern and western media have examples of both.
>>15381890
Yeah, I agree, 40k mecha are kind of like that, but that's an obvious and very well known example and I was seeking more things like that.

lolno
They're in the game already, no need to justify them. If you want to talk tanks, talk about a game where the premise isn't "dude mechs lmao". Speaking of premises, from what I've read, The Great War has just ended and Saxon Empire, Polania Republic and Rusviet (taking clues from Games Workshop, I see) are about to have a go at it again. And Rusviet's about power struggle between Tzar Nikolai II and Rasputin. what
