Let's say aliens come to Earth and they're interested in video games.

What is the first video game you recommend they play?

What are a variety of video games in different genres you recommend they play?

Are there any games you think they should outright skip if they were given copies of every single game ever made?

Bonus Topic: Games where you can play as aliens or where aliens aren't the bad guy.

I think Pac-Man is a good starting point to show aliens or someone who knows nothing of video games. It's not the first, but I'd say it's the first video game when video games became a big thing and included one of first major video game characters.

Would you also recommend THPS2x? We had a deal with Microsoft awhile back so we're sitting on a pile of original Xbox consoles and launch titles. THPS3 is a bit harder to find.
