It has some metroidvania elements, but Pharaoh Rebirth is pretty good outside of some unmappable controls(map screen os pressing up twice, dashing is attack and jump buttons simultaneously, sprinting is double tap)

Its singleplayer, optional co-op. More people playing means tougher enemies and better loot.
I would also reccomend the old and the mixed reviewed. These are all games I have atleast 50 hours playtime in.
In Grim Dawn's case, I have 300+ hours playtime. I've completed all the content on the starting difficulty, now moving up one difficulty for greater challenge.

Doubt it. In looking at the top 10 negative reviews, everyone's complaining about controls and even configurability of controls. This is nearly 90% of the gaming experience. If it were simply too challenging, it'd most likely still get an overall positive score like Cuphead or Dead Cells.

Valdis story: Abyssal City and ICEY are metroidvanias I liked that not a lot of people talk about. I also like Shantae but it's metroidvania-lite but still enjoyable
