The "Japanese Smash ballot" you're referring to is nothing but a con job. It is completely unsourced and largely borrows its results from unofficial western polls that had, at most, only a few hundred people participating.

This notion that Banjo is popular in Japan is nothing but a fabrication.

I remember reading somewhere they didn't really have a way to make that work in Japanese, so apparently they gave her "Witch-Speak" like how using forms of words or verbs can indicate dialect, etc in Japanese. Like she asks Dingpot "Aaam I preeetttyy?" or some form of sounding crone like or whatnot.
