You can probably land on planets without a ship. I almost managed to when it thought I still was inside and I fell through the back of the ship and the gravity it applied to me was weak.

It actually is pretty well compressed. They use an oddball compression algorithm called Zstandard and compress 150GiB into 40GiB. All those high detail jpegs they sell take up a lot of space and the client contains them all.

This is incredibly common if you look at other things where people get buttloads of money. Somewhere around 80% of all professional athletes end their careers completely broke because when you go from being a broke college student to suddenly getting hundreds of thousands of dollars a week, you have no fucking concept how much money that really is. Same thing happens with lottery winners and the like. However it's unexcusable with Roberts, who is running a fucking business. He should have a spread sheet keeping track of this shit. I would guess that he's at a point where he doesn't even realize he's scamming people, and has some internal justification for all of this.
