They've always been this way - since the fucking 80's. The first Nintendo console I ever bought was a NGC - during a time when they were still fighting for the traditional console market and couldn't afford to be aggressive and pushy to their own customers. But ever since they carved out that little pocket-market for themselves that they can dominate, they've once again started to show their true colors. Honestly, the only reason why I even bought a Switch in the first place was because of homebrew, piracy, and emulation - but I had at least intended to buy a few games that I really wanted. See that's always been part of my problem with the character of Bayonetta herself. She always feels so above it all to the point of not even seeming human anymore until a moment in the story comes along where she's mandated to start caring. She doesn't have as much of a sense of relatablility as a Dante, a Gene or even a Raiden where they seem like relatively down to earth people at heart who just happen to pull off inhuman feats and go through a sense of growth throughout their adventures.
That's not to say the Bayo games aren't good games either but I'd rather replay any of her contemporaries than her games because besides her sexiness there isn't much keeping me there especially her character.

I don't think 2 placed any greater emphasis on its story than the first game did, one or two forced walking segments aside. I actually ended up liking 2 better because of the much better variety of weapons to choose from and the (at the time, before the PC port) much more stable framerate, since the first game ran pretty terribly on the Wii U at times. 2's boss fights may have been more samey than the first game's too but I didn't mind that since I absolutely hated most of the first game's fights, Fortitudo and Iustitia being particularly sleep-inducing. 2 also had no instant death QTEs and nowhere near as many QTEs in general, which I appreciated.

No, Nintendo blew their entire load to get people hyped. They basically announced their roadmap for the next three years at once, with no real time lines. They did it because they knew people wouldn't buy a Switch that fast if it was only good for Mario, Mario Kart, and Splatoon 2.
It was just them saying the line up will be good for the next few years. They did the same thing with the new Prime game, and the new Pokemon. I suspect next holiday Nintendo will blow a big load. This year we have Smash for holidays, and it will sell a ton of Switches. Next year we will get Pokemon or Metroid and maybe Bayo 3.
