Why are asymmetric games bad on the core? I mean one side is always more powerful than the other and it’s never fun, what’s wrong with the devs and balancing the game properly so you feel helpless but still have a chance or feel like a killing machine but can get bent over if you aren’t paying attention?

I’m not taking into account the outside problem of those games evolve shit ideafriday lawsuit I just want to talk about asymmetrical mechanics

DBD is entirely balanced in favour of the Survivor.

It is literally mathematically impossible to win as the Killer vs competent Survivor players.

Survivors can stall the Killer for obscene amounts of time and the objectives can be completed absurdly fast, even without boosts from co-op repair/toolboxes/perks.

Combine the two and you get a game where all the generators are completed and the gates open before a single Survivor dies.

Add to that all but a small handful of the Killer powers are utterly worthless and all the ridiculously overpowered Survior perks, and allowing Survivors to queue with their friends when the game was originally designed and balanced around 4 randoms with no communication, not teams communicating with voice chat.

Go watch the Depip squad videos by marth88, in which a ugly fat fuck and his buddies utterly embarrass Rank 1 Killers, even with handicaps.

I remember this mod called The Hidden for Half-Life 2, in which you play a squad of soldiers hunting down and invisible test subject. Said Subject was always invisible and could leap and climb on to high perches, he also was equipped with a knife which had a one hit kill backstab attack, and two grenades. He could also pin corpses to the wall to throw the soldiers off his trail. The soldiers also have a motions tracker so the Subject had to use hit and run attacks.

The gameplay involved the soldiers setting a bunch of sonic alarms to be alert and trying not to be isolated while the Subject would be leaping about and trying to obfuscate his position and isolate the soldiers to make it easier for him to eliminate them one by one.

Of course if a Modern game did this they would give the soldiers magic invisible seeing thermal goggles that everyone picks that would tip the balance to the Soldiers because god forbid we actually have fun and not be able to win all the time.

Fair enough. I’ve played 10 games and manage to win all the killer one and lose the survivors exactly becasue becasue teamwork is not working, and the killer have it piss easy if they camp…. maybe it’s all on survivor exactly becasue lobby with friends makes you organized and can actually communicate on the killer position

Can’t say anymore exactly becasue I’ve played so few games it just struck me how shitty the game balance is

Even without comms, Survivors still have a massive advantage.

DBD is so fucked that its impossible for Killers to win unless the Survivors fuck up, the Killer player's skill does not matter beyond understanding basic mechanics/map layouts.

The devs have done nothing to fix it because they know Survivor players are the much bigger and more vocal part of the playerbase.

They just keep putting little band-aids on massive gaping wounds and say "look we fixed it!", most of the biggest issues the game has have been around sinc ebta.

Camping makes the Killer lose unless the Survivors are idiots.

If the killer is camping that means he is doing nothing, letting the other Survivors complete the generators and escape for free.

The concept has potential but faggots will always ruin it. F13 was the closest to having it right until the devs started listening to the beta cucks who can't play games. At it's core, an asymmetrical game CAN'T be balanced and, in fact, works best if the One player is more powerful than the group, and that the group has to do something else other than fight the One player. This is why Evolve shat the bed. F13 had it right initially, which was that the counselors were supposed to hide or escape. Dying was commonplace and escaping was rare, but the game still rewarded you even if you died with EXP to unlock things as that was the flow of the game. Jason had a "glitch" where after being stunned, he couldn't be stunned again after he stood back up for about 5 seconds. This meant Jason could start swinging his axe at all the people crowded around him and butcher them while their attacks were ineffective, or even grab one and kill them on the spot, making an emphasis for them to run instead of sticking around to fight.

Sadly, updates later made Jason a laughing stock due to listening to the faggots fresh off of DBD and who didn't know what the game was supposed to be: they shortened his attack and grab range, made his stuns have no cooldown time, resulting in 2-3 people stunlocking Jason all match, and the perks for the counselors only got better while Jason got no buffs to his abilities or countermeasures to make him a danger again.

But again, the concept works, you just need devs who don't fucking cater to the retards.

The "Solo villain vs group of weaker humans" style of game has a lot of potential, but it seems every dev that makes them is fucking retarded.

Hopefully Last Year breaks the trend and has its killers be actual threats instead of being yet another fucking game where the "villain" role is just a mild inconvenience for the humans at best or pathetic clowns for the humans to bully at worst.

I want to see a game like this where one player is a fucking gigantic monster wrecking a city and the players run different parts of the government. The human players are limited in action by what they can field and their function - You have the person who controls the city's power supply, plumbing, etc, who needs to route power where it is needed and away from places already destroyed. The military commander needs to effectively place their men to properly both fight the monster and coordinate evacuation. The air traffic controller needs to keep the skies clear of interference for the military as well as keep planes out of the monster's attack area. Communications is the only one with voice chat to all of them and thus needs to coordinate everyone (Though this would be hard to enforce, sadly) as well as make sure all the ground level grunts know what's going on. And so on. Each of the human bureaucracies has a building, if that gets destroyed (They look almost identical to the rest of the buildings) then that player can't act, except perhaps in a limited degree if the military has foward-operating bases. But then the Monster can just target those bigass obvcious STEP ON ME tents…

Throw in different monsters, different officials (who have different skill sets within their bureaucracy) Maybe different cities if you're feeling spicy (Which would have different resources for the players - a city with a military base on its edge would allow for the Commander to launch more effective attacks but would put a nice big FUCK THIS SHIT UP sign on his lawn) and you have a potential for tons of content.

Hell, add in time periods, the ability to field heroes like jaegers/titans or sentai groups, just go ham with the concept.

One "Monster" vs a group works well, especially if the goal of the monster is to kill-em-all while the goal of the group is to escape. The trick is to enable escape as an option for a single person in case the rest of the players are retards, albeit a bit harder. Make it so that the monster cannot be killed, only "stunned" and it'd work quite well; people would want to be the monster and the others would be terrified/stressed while playing as the victims.

While having a giant monster would work well, I'm thinking more like a human sized monster. Imagine the gameplay idea of F13 where you can slink around or you can be bold and blaring and you can go with not only any number of slasher foes, but by using different "skins" on the settings, you could do a future one where you have to escape the Alien, you could do something modern/contemporary innawoods, you could do urban in some desolate small town, or you could go to the past in the sword and sorcery ages.

Just using a creature/killer that would work for each area and the survivors required to work together for the most part and you have a very good formula. F13 made use of it with environment kills, so where you got caught would determine what the killer could do to you and I think that is a good idea to follow. Include 4 on-hand grab kills, and a selectable weapon to change up kills, and of course, singleplayer as the monster vs AI, and I'd buy it

But lets think about some vaguely humanoid shaped monsters that we could use for this. I think the abilities Jason has work well, a map teleport, a sense ability, an evil-dead type dash for shorter range porting, and a stalk function to mute music and sounds to your prey.

I know werewolves, vampites, and even Frankenstein's monster (Adam) are able to be used, but I'd want to go with something more exotic and more along the liens of something you couldn't "reason" with in a normal context.

Ideas that could work:

I think of something that looks more like Grievous would work though it'd be hilarious to make it a knock off of one of the FNAF bots and watch it chase you down before it crushes your head

Some random hell beast that has some aspects of human mixed with something else. Perhaps tapping into the idea of some of the original angelic depictions combined with a humanoid shape (pic 3 is Godzilla + the Buddhist idea of the perfected soul)

You could design it up a bit, but honestly a simple Skeleton with a sword and shield would be horrifying enough to imagine you have to escape it. obviously you'd probably get xylophone sounds somewhere in the music

Any other suggestions?

I can't help but think that these "one player is the monster vs everyone else" games would work infinitely better if they were designed around the idea that the monster player will inevitably win eventually (either because they constantly get stronger or because they have a means with which to wear down the group over time) and the aim of the game is for the group to try and last as long as they can despite this.

Hell if you do that you that you can then have it so each player takes turns being the monster with the person who was able to cause a team wipe the fastest being the overall winner.

This is pretty much exactly how it should be. Either everybody dies, or only one or two barely escape by the skin of their teeth.

But instead we get shit where the villain role is a ineffectual pansy who cant accomplish shit and gets bullied unless the human players fuck up and hand the villain the kill.

Most of these types of games are horror/slasher themed, but what the fuck kind of horror and slasher movies have the devs of these games been watching where the villain doesn't kill anybody and gets t-bagged by the people he is trying to kill.

Make it tense, make the goals obvious, and have that carrot dangling in front of them. Make it seem that survival is within their reach. For all the retard decisions F13 did, it was the closest to getting this right.
