“Immersion” leads to “fun”, Mr. Straw Man. It implies that when you're playing a game, your actions are based on the real-life logic, not on in-game one: “This is what I'd do if I were in this situation.”, not “I can't climb up the ledges in this game.” or something like that. Sure, you don't need it but you also don't need sound, if the gameplay is good.
