Found their statement. If only OP wasn't a faggot.
>Starting on January 1 2019, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. This means that after that date the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows.
>The newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 7 and above.
>For the remainder of 2018 Steam will continue to run and to launch games on Windows XP and Windows Vista, but other functionality in Steam will be somewhat limited. For example, new features such as the new Steam Chat will not be available. We encourage all users on these operating systems to upgrade to newer versions of Windows in order to have ongoing access to the latest features of Steam, and to ensure future access to all games and other Steam content.
So the main reason seems to be security updates and Goygle Chrome. I guess if it was just their gay web-browser nobody would give a shit and they could continue to use it, but I guess the security part makes it harder to do that.
I wonder if people using XP or Vista could have the option to back up their games if they bugged support about it if they tell them they don't plan on upgrading to 7.
>>15324808
Even with 10 around now I doubt 7 will disappear any time in the near future. Too many people still use it. Cutting them off certainly won't do them any good.

The question is: Why should a DRM and game store have higher system requirements than the games it distributes?
If you download the games with cracks or from GoG or any other DRMfree site, there are no such requirements and your not bound to anything. You can just run and play the game on any OS which was capable of playing it when it released.

It will help you understand concepts which transfer well to modern development but not much else. Only do it if you're a beginner who doesn't yet grasp the basic "mindset" of being a programmer. Personally, I'd recommend Java, though. The compiler is very strict and prevents you from doing too many retarded things, which is the problem with C/C++. You may wish to choose a language which does not allow nullable values by default, though, because it looks like most of the big tech frameworks are trying to get rid of that (for good reason – search for "null billion dollar mistake" if you don't know what I'm talking about).

You do understand that java was only being recommended as a learning language?
No one actually expects anyone to write shit in the poo in loo language.
At least, i fucking hope not.
Most languages are easy to transfer between, it's mostly just small changes in syntax and structure.
I can easily write something in python even though I've never used it, i just need to know the syntax.
The mindset is all you really need to get down when it comes to programing.

I can already tell you're probably not a professional, but your question about why I would tell someone to learn something that isn't used is ridiculous. First off, Java is ubiquitous. It has its flaws, but hey, if you want a job, there it is. I haven't personally touched Java in 3 and a half years. Second your question/point is totally irrelevant anyway because the anon I was originally talking to was asking if it's a good idea to use outdated tech to learn to program, so that plane has already flown.

Good video. He's completely correct. If you want to keep your games forever you better keep a pirated copy at hand just to be sure. You can't trust companies to do this, but even worse you can't trust developers to do this anymore either.
I'm almost sad Ubisoft didn't get bought up by Vivendi and only didn't want that to happen for fear of even worse agenda driven games. Now Tencent holds some of their shares so we may see a different kind of animal morph out of Ubisoft in the future. Guillemot sounds like an utter idiot there with no regards for consumer protection. Shouldn't surprise anyone at this point though, CEOs of big publishers see games as nothing more than disposable tools to wring money out of people.

And support for Windows 7 is not something that's Intel's or AMD's responsibility, but Microsoft's. Microsoft is the one that ensured AMD's and Intel's newer CPUs worked correctly on their OS by implementing kernel drivers. CPU manufacturers don't have access to that code.
