I'm fairly certain Togashi talked about it when he was asked about the concept of Phagogenesis and the King.
That the Guards are supposed to be sex-less so he cannot have offspring with them.

Hard to say. The wikis list the other two as "male" and Pitou's sex is always "unknown". But I'm certain that officially they're supposed to have no sex to begin with.

Nah Kurpika is dead, we still have not found out who the fuck he is on the boat but I am conciered that he is ugly as sin what a shame now, missing a hand, and a foot.
