I remember Nero being placed around DMC3 Dante's level. By the end of DMC4 Nero's meant to be at a level where Dante is comfortable leaving him with Yamato. I think the implication being that if Dante weren't around to stop Mundus tier demons that Nero could take his place. There's also the whole narrative them of humans having something demon's don't. Something Dante embraced alongside his demonic heritage by the end of DMC3 that Vergil rejected. Nero followed Dante's lead so at this point, in theory he should be stronger than DMC3 Vergil. Could also be that Nero is too far human to reap all the rewards of that and Dante & Vergil sit in the 50/50 goldilocks zone.

What the fuck are you retards talking about DMC5 looking like DmC? Tamtam's diarrhea was all eyebleed and bright colors. Orange and blue, red and black with such a strong contrast you felt like you'd be seeing weird shapes and colors for hours after watching footage of the game. It was completely unrealistic, with weird proportions for buildings and your usual shitty Unreal Engine problems.

DMC5 is using the new RE engine which is all photorealistic and shit, meaning they have to ground themselves in real design or they have a huge uncanny valley problem with everything. The closes equivalent in the previous games would be fucking DMC2 or the first two levels in DMC3 before your enter Temen-ni-gru.

The same goes for character design; in DmC everyone and everything just looked dirty and unwashed. It was the shit tamtam was masturbating over, being and punk and unhygienic. In DMC5 they're clearly going back to the clean and over-designed styles of the older games, but with inspiration from Euro fashion. Which while kind of gay is still miles better than what DmC went with.

I think the big problem is that Dante had style switching in 4 and you could do it quickly without any penalty aside from not having the reaction times fast enough to deal with it. The Devil Breaker system is virtually the same but they limit you on the amount you can do it making you have to play conservatively in a game that’s about going all out. Honestly, from the look and sounds of it, that’s going to be Nero’s big gimmick this time around and I don’t see them adding in to much else for him aside from some different Devil Breaker abilities (like timestop). I’d like to be wrong though. This does lead me to believe that Dante will play like a refined version of his 4 iteration, and “V” will play completely different from the both of them. We’ll see if there are more characters to play as who will change the gameplay up even more, but knowing Capcom I imagine any additional characters will be saved for DLC or a directors cut.

Like I said, my issue is more on the Breaker being limited. I like that it does more than the bringer, but I already know that I don’t like having a limit to how many times you can use some basic looking skills.

As for DT, read the manual. Normally DT is put on one of the bumpers, but both are taken with the DT button being used for the DB instead and instead of having a meter for DT you have a meter for DB. I do think Dante will still have his trigger, but I think with Nero they are going to focus more on his arms abilities with you unlocking different Breakers for him throughout the course of his section.

Nah, I could definitely see where the visual comparison was made off the first trailer. In gameplay it’s super colorful, but in that cutscene the colors were dark and Nero’s blue jacket was swapped for an almost black one making him visually appear edgy for a moment. His short hair reminding people of Donte didn’t help either, of course, when the visual shift wears off and you start comparing the two games off their content they aren’t anything alike. I do wish they opted for their more colorful designs though considering there was a gameplay reason for the red and blue jacket and there was a moment there while watching the IGN video where I did lose Nero in the background for a second due to his design.

The first trailer was a bit of a headscratcher for me too I'll admit, but for me personally that was more because of the colour choices (as you said) and if they were an indication of a darker tone than any similarities to DmC, which had vibrant colours everywhere a lot of the time. I remember people being worried that it's set in a pretty bog standard urban environment too but, assuming this is the first level, that's pretty in line with the beginnings of both 3 and 4 (although 4's city did have a more unique visual flair to it). The area with Goliath especially reminds me of 4. I think Nero's shorter hair was done to visually differentiate him more from Dante in light of the darker colour scheme, so I don't mind that change.

Although I'm really happy with how this demo looks I will say that I wish the broken glass HUD was a bit more transparent, it looks a bit obtrusive to me as is. That and I'm not sure what to make of the Devil Breaker system, but it doesn't look too egregious.

One thing I find weird, with the criticism this game's art style is getting, is that DMC3 started in a similar looking urban environment, before transitioning to Temen-ni-gru.

Hell, later in the game it even plays with the fact that Temen-ni-gru is in the middle of a city, showing said city in the distance, or having Dante fall towards it, etc.

And I find it hard to believe they're going to just show off everything in the game, right now. So who's to say it'll even stay in the city environment the whole game?

We don't know if they've taken a westernized approach to the lore, we haven't seen any of it yet. Devil Breaker seems fairly interesting. Seems like it has a normal moveset which won't consume the stock, but using special moves and taking damage or using an emergency dodge will removed from your stock of arms.

Also, the grappling hook seems to work even without the arms so you always have snatch. Kind of interested to know how much of Nero's moveset was unlocked for the demo, since usually you only start with the bare bones.

I think the artistic direction is very derivative from Tamtam work (I just realized it was an affectionate nickname from his /v/ fans and not a way to spite him).

Then the gameplay can even be good… But if I don't like how a game look, it better, how a certain kind of a game should look in my book, I'm not going to buy it.

To me the peak of devil may cry design was reached with DMC 4. Yeah some monsters where sad, some were brilliant (like the giant toad) but in general it had a good design. Bayonetta was even better, it was inspired by DMC4 in character design and had very inventive monsters (all that old school biblical angels).
