This isn't the same as someone saying their opinion on something, publishing news or writing an article for Wikipedia, where the goal\reward is coverage. Here, the goal is being paid for it and if this does not happen, this "information" won't even appear most of the time.

Fundamentally, everyone should pay for the games they like not because it's illegal to play them without doing so but because you understand that the Devs need the money to stay in business and you want them to make more games. You never pay for what you have now, you always pay for what may come in the future if the Devs stay afloat and see there's money to be made.

Age of Wonders 3's multiplayer is DRM-walled through Triumph servers (yes, even if you buy it through GOG), so I'm pretty sure it fails OP's test of "not needing an internet connection to game." While the game offers a "LAN" mode, it requires an internet connection to go through Triumph's online servers. It's fucking atrocious.
