I am playing PowerPros 2016 and Spirits 2015 both occasionally.
First of all remember, owning or pirating latest versions of those games for new modes means fuckload of nothing, because gameplay wise when you're getting good, those modes no longer interest you and you at one point will be only playing pennant races (also known as seasons) and exhibitions, so if you can play ps2/gamecube versions play them. The only downside of ps2 and gc ones is that physics is much simpler, even in powerpro games. The difference between Spirits 2010 for ps2 and Spirits 2015 for vita was insignificant for me, but it seems Spirits 2010 was lost somewhere on the internet.
Second - most people play those games for batting boxes as a batter, so you have batting physics for more adrenaline pumping gameplay, but you should also consider Gekitou Pro Yakyuu and its western analog Homerun King as well, so batting box is not unique thing, and fairly recently was added as a config feature in official MLB games.
PowerPros 2016 feature:
>Exhibition and Pennant race as a needed
>Arcade festival mode with OC and inning skip (erases your saves if you quit it mid game)
>Through-time team manager mode which is boring since you can't play as your team in that mode and have to give out japanese commands
>A roleplaying dating-sim like experience of making your own baseball player, very short three campaigns that you can use as backstories for your character
>A roleplaying dating-sim like LONG TERM seasonal experience, more akin to player's life in other konami games, but it can feature dating sim elements if you got a girlfriend as your character in previous short sessions and use them as your backstory.
Gameplay-wise
<have to configure in pure japanese most settings on manual for better gameplay
<small batting window and bigger bat image
<really fast moving balls
<characters are slow as fuck because chibis are actually representation of player positions and not their real weight
<unrealistic super moves and highly affecting moral system
<can make your own team from scratch and dress them in weird outfits
Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 feature:
>Exhibition and Pennant race as a needed
>Can configure Pennant race for automatic inning skip session
>Manager mode that is complex as fuck but doesn't let you play yourself, waste of time
>A roleplaying player's live mode similar to the one from PES games
>homerun and challenge modes
>Conquest mode which is very similar how Koei's Empires games function, in addition to that you have to collect player cards to compete in various regions of japan.
>But that mode is piss easy and no configurable AI so its a waste of time as well.
Gameplay-wise
<have to configure in pure japanese most settings on manual for better gameplay
<its even harder to configure AI because its either absolutely atrocious, or godlike
<big batting window that doesn't let you hit for shit, need PS3 controller, because PS4 sticks suck
<bigger field, can tell that players are giving their best, real life ball and bat physics
<some limitations on team creations, can't create one from scratch and can only replace existing ones
All in all they both are fun, but filled to a brink of stuff you will never return to once become experienced enough in gameplay itself. Search internet for guides on how to configure the settings, you will need them.
