bb09cd No.15251384

Two years ago I built a rig that would play most any current year+whatever it is now game. Two years later I have yet to play any current year+ game and am loving reliving childhood joy through emulation.

What even is the point of most modern games? Where are the games that are focused on challenge and fun like the old titles?

Also, what's your favorite old game to emulate?

6d257c No.15251586

Also, what's your favorite old game to emulate?

None, original hardware is the only way to go. Emulation will always be an inferior solution just for poorfags.

86917a No.15264296

>>15264289

The way Nintendos VC emulator handles texture maps works differently than actual hardware. The VC emulators floating point emulation is also not as precise as an actual N64 which leads to glitches caused by rounding errors that only exist in the VC versions of Super Mario 64 as another example. The QPU 0-A press dude goes more into detail about this I think.

Two analog sticks are mandatory for 3D games. The N64 controller was designed for 3D games unlike the SNES controller. Sony was smart enough to change their controller design later on with the DS1. Just for the record, I like the SNES controller that's one of the reasons I bought a SNES Mini and the best part is I can plug it into my Wii I use for CRT emulation and even inside the Wii remote and use it as "semi-wireless" controller

Also, I've been emulating Sword of Etheria on PS2. Pretty decent hack and slash that encourages chaining combos between you and your partners. Strangely it was never released in America, but the English European version strongly suggests it was intended for a US release, if the use anime dub voice actors is any indication. It sold pretty poorly and was such a late release that Konami probably didn't think it was worth a US release.

It's one major flaw is that it slows down a lot, which I blamed on PCSX2 initially, but reading reviews from when it came out, this seems like a legit problem with the game.

Because the RetroArch team are nintoddler autists:

https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/5dr4ip/having_so_many_problems_with_retroarch/

>It might only not map out perfectly with an N64 or Sega Saturn/Megadrive pad but honestly, those gamepads are dated and history has proven that only the PS4/Xbone/PS3/Xbox 360 gamepad model has survived the test of time. Therefore, we go with the gamepad that is used by 90 to 95% of all gamers right now, not some ultra-niche group that is using an original N64 or Saturn pad.

There was even one core, the abandoned ParaLLEl Vulkan-accelerated Angrylion Mupen64 fork, that fixed it, considered a "bug" by the main team:

https://forums.libretro.com/t/cannot-redefine-some-parallel-mupen64plus-controls/

>Twinaphex insists on the current default behavior, which maps modern pads like a Classic Controller playing N64 games on the Wii VC, with some games moving the buttons around to be easier to play (e.g., Killer Instinct 2).

Good news though! The autists have caved, and the "RetroPad" abstraction is being greatly loosened. Also, an actual WIMP GUI:
