The chip damage one is tricky, BBTAG is a good example of chip damage being too reliable as seen by jin MELTING health bars in that game with his resonance super. lack of chip isn't the issue with DBZ match length is how long the strings are and how you can avoid punishment for your specials with assist cover. Smash 4 is literally "NEUTRAL" the game. Powerful ass shield, no characters with good shield pressure, infinite and almost unpunishable airdodges, no hitstun so there are very few combo options, etc. etc. etc. essentially the optimal playstyle is to spam safe air attacks and try to grab people to death. Obviously Wavedashing isn't enough to make the game interesting. All of the game's mechanics make it interesting. I think a lot of people in the fgc don't really understand fully because they haven't played the game much at a competitive level so they don't see the small interactions and adjustments, and the inverse is true. Most smashfags don't understand how fighting games work and can't see things that fighting game players can. I would prefer to watch Guilty Gear or KoF or Blazblue over Melee most of the time, but i would still say that Melee is an interesting game, just not in the same way that anime or SNK games are.

I've been trying to think of characters in this game that aren't brain dead the only ones I can think of right now are Nash and Dhalsim. All the characters that I play as are pretty fucking braindead all I do is just try to confirm off blockstrings and throw random mixups.

This entire game is based around randumb crush counters into big damage, wakeup mixups, and blockstring setups. That's all there is to this game. I don't see footsies or zoning in this game.
