It's definitely possible to use them but it does take a lot of getting used to. The tutorial looked absolutely bonkers the first time I played and to this day I'm not sure if I am doing things the way the devs intended.

Map the face buttons to both the right stick and face buttons. This makes the right stick a digital input, but the left stick is still analog. Therefore, only use the left stick for finite adjustments, and un-train your brain from using the right stick like an analog.

Then, either get used to double tapping left/square to turn, or figure out some way to macro or some shit. Same goes with the boost, though it's still similar to regular katamari controls. L/R don't really help much, just ignore them. I played the game on Vita and had a better time, but I'm sure it's just as good on PPSSPP

And enjoy the game, it's certainly not better than the console titles, but the levels are relatively fun and don't get old. Don't forget to do the special stages (on the sand island)

It's a shitshow, but at least they tried. Namco had great support of PSP: Ace Combat, Tekken, Ridge Racer, all at PS2 quality. I'm disappointed they didn't give the same treatment to Vita, though after the mediocre RR and Katamari titles for Vita, I'm almost glad they stopped.

Well I mean I could see how it could work if they maybe made it platforming heavy and made use of the buttons. I know they added a jump to the new games, but a PSP game shouldn't really go with it.

They included a simplified control scheme which only uses the left stick. Sort of like the simplified controls in Ace Combat, for those who can't comprehend roll and yaw. It works, but the novelty is partly in the unique controls. You lose a lot of options by only using one stick.

And yeah, jumping was only in Forever and Touch My. The mechanic itself is nice, but the implementation isn't the best, especially with the tendency to not clear the jump and bounce off.

I'm glad they stuck to classic Katamari gameplay, since the first game nailed it, needed no improvements.
