I'll cut this short, A long time ago I went through some phase where I couldn't tell the difference between what was real and what wasn't, ever since, I've been highly interested in games that blur the line in their stories. So far I've enjoyed games like MGS2, Dreamweb, and Spec Ops: The Line in that regard. Are there any other games where such thing happens? It doesn't have to be a blurring of the lines between fact and fiction, just games that generally mess with the main character's head and/or perception of reality. Eternal Darkness was good for that.

I don't really like Kojima games, I thought the gameplay in MGS2 was nearly non existent, the plot was interesting at least. Out of all these games that I've played, I think Spec Ops: The Line, even with its mediocre gameplay, at least had me entertained long enough until the good stuff arrived, MGS2 was pretty much sitting on your ass listening to people talk.

>>15245182

I've played all three Stalker games, I don't think they'd fit my criteria.

From the fucking get go, the game is ridden with cutscenes, not to mention that the Big Shell is a dull place to explore, nothing like Shadow Moses in MGS, the bossfights are alright, but they make up a small percentage of game time.

>the game is ridden with cutscenes

skip them faggot

> not to mention that the Big Shell is a dull place to explore

wrong faggot

>nothing like Shadow Moses in MGS

less tedious

>they make up a small percentage of game time.

>all these non-arguments to avoid saying how great the improvements to stealth are, the new AI, new ways to engage with the enemies and the environment

>skip them faggot

Great, so I can't enjoy the story, basically I have to choose whether I wanna play game, or watch a fucking movie.

>wrong faggot

Nice argument there.

>less tedious

>He found Shadow Moses tedious.

>all these non-arguments to avoid saying how great the improvements to stealth are, the new AI, new ways to engage with the enemies and the environment

Oh look at all this fancy new tech, too fucking bad you now gotta sit through a 30 minute cutscene, oh I can skip it? Great, too fucking bad if you skip all the cutscenes it becomes a pretty short game.

MGS2 is the Evangelion of videogames.

>so I can't enjoy the story

then don't bitch about them

>Nice argument there.

"dull" is a vapid and empty statement. Nut up or fuck off.

>guards in the same positions that you can just b-line through isn't tedious

>cameras as the only obstacle you have to factor for isn't tedious

>gimmick rooms with 20 gun turrets you literally just walk past isn't tedious

shadow moses had a lot of problems

glad you've come to terms that your argument is shit and MGS2 has plenty of solid game play.

This is a walking simulator, but it does a very good job at getting across the incoherent insanity that is going into peoples heads and reliving their memories, and not being able to discern if you're actually in your own reality or reliving someones else's.

1db3f7 No.15245332

>>15245314

>then don't bitch about them

But he can and he does, the cutscenes from MGS2 are poorly put together as in, they are too long and get in your way, Kojima is literally unable to tell a story with few words and has to overexpose you to everything like a retard. You could easily get a competent director to tell the same story with half the lenght cutscene wise.

>MGS2 has plenty of solid game play.

While it certainly plays better than its prequel, MGS2 doesn't really have a lot of outstanding gameplay or use of its mechanic to put it better due to its extremely linear nature and the fixed camera is horrible so that doesn't help. The first person console-based controls are an abortion too.

>>15245314

>glad you've come to terms that your argument is shit and MGS2 has plenty of solid game play.

I haven't changed my mind faggot, MGS2 is pretty poor in terms of content, little improvements in the AI and little details here and there don't make up for the sheer lack of fucking gameplay, why did you think on the re-release of MGS2 they added optional special missions with an alternate story?

>guards in the same positions that you can just b-line through isn't tedious

I'd find that shit easy, not tedious, got caught a lot?

>cameras as the only obstacle you have to factor for isn't tedious

Oh no, challenge, someone help this man.

>gimmick rooms with 20 gun turrets you literally just walk past isn't tedious

Again, it's only tedious if you get caught up in them.

85839c No.15245353

>>15245337

tedious does not equal challenging you dumb fucker, it equals a waste of time, irrelevant padding and ultimately boredom.

>>15245332

>cutscenes from MGS2 are poorly put together as in, they are too long and get in your way

mostly true

>Kojima is literally unable to tell a story with few words and has to overexpose you to everything like a retard.

yes

>You could easily get a competent director to tell the same story

We haven't, however

>MGS2 doesn't really have a lot of outstanding gameplay

it does, stealth is legitimately hard with very elaborate AI sequences that no other game of its genre has ever tried again. Nails the experience of sneaking through cramped corridors.

>The first person console-based controls are an abortion too.

I found them serviceable, you might just be bad with a controller

000000 No.15245468

Silent Hill 3. One of the antagonists heavily implies that the monsters you've been killing all along were actually innocent people. Implying that you're simply insane and that your warped mind only sees them as "monsters". And he's completely right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVtT5F4pqXc

Okay, foot down. Those first person controls were god awful. Also MGS3 > MGS2 in terms of sheer gameplay and stealth. I could shoot an unsilenced pistol right next to a guard in strut F (Warehouse) and no one did shit. Same thing in MGS3 anywhere and someone reacted.

Menu management a bitch though, thanks Survival Viewer and Camo Viewer.

I watched this game again and it actually made me feel a depressing kind of spooky. It was also a lot easier to follow the story after having experienced it in one way or another at least half a dozen times now. I do agree with the other guy who said it has too much cutscenes even though its still a great game to play. At least that is what VR is for.

Marathon Infinity

Basically there is constantly weird shit going on what with tine travel and dream levels but it's barely acknowledged by any of the characters in the story and it's completely up to you to figure out what exactly is going on

Well to be exact with OP, it would be Antichamber. I gave up at the part where you get to own a gun that shoots cubes. But other than that, there is the game of Stanley Parable.

The Phantom Pain is really good for this. MGS2 and V are very similar with that feeling of what is and isn't reality, what really did and did not happen.

Do you not get the gun near the beginning of the game?

Haven't played it in years.
