EDF5 is set in a different storyline/universe, where EDF was created to fight off terrorists around the world until the "Primers" (the aliens) suddenly appeared to invade the Earth. Weapon upgrade system is quite the grind endgame when, as stats are divided between damage, ammo, range, speed range, reload time, etc and you'll seek for some of the real good improvements (like the high-level heavy flamethrower of the Fencer going from 8-10 seconds by default in waiting time to 0.80 second full upgraded)

Hardest and Inferno are locked until you finish all the missions once (likely on Hard, since playing on Hard counts as achieved in Easy/Normal too).

You can revert back to civilian clothes (Policeman costume for Ranger, Worker costume for Fencer, etc) once the military outfits are unlocked past the first few missions

Forgot to say the vehicles themselves DO NOT get upgrades. Only the weapons can get upgraded as well as the Wing Diver cores (higher amount of plasma reserve).

The upgrades you get for vehicles is the lesser amount of credit points required to call one, which is useful since neither the Ranger and Air Raider can call for a vehicle right at the start of a mission.

Every enemy get a HP and damage boost in online depending of the numbers of players present, just like in EDF 4.1

The biggest threat among the ayys are the ones holding the laser cannon, as that thing can fuck your shit up from anywhere regardless how far they are, and blind you too. Ayys with shotguns are best be taken care of too, dont let them ambush you and get close to you.

Boulder insects are a special kind of annoying, they dont deal lot of damage but their whole purpose is to stun you

You still get tier-ups of vehicle as unlocks tho? Or how are they supposed to scale? Because I really like how they're embracing their inner mech. Do the wheeled vehicles and helicopters handle any better? Because one big complaint I had about 4.1 was with the vehicle physics doing dumb things like make APCs unable to climb steep grades while realistically they should be able to gain enough traction+momentum to handle it, not to mention the retarded vehicle controls.

It's just poor physics simulation. Not that I want accurate physics models in EDF, I just don't want to slip backwards on a ramp a normal car could scale.

Yes. You get better vehicles and weapons when obtaining weapon boxes on later missions and higher difficulties

Yes, although they generally play differently compared to 4.1

Ranger

Good because once I figured out how to do that, by watching someone else do it in multiplay, I couldn't play fencer without it.

The air raider changes make him less of a dedicated vehicle user so I'm a bit bummed about that. The Vegalta was easily my favorite part about 4.1 next to fencer zooming around blowing everything up with dual boomhammers.

I also wanted to mention that there is a couple of maps that use meteorological conditions such as rain or snow, or even mist (which completely blind you from seeing anything beyond a few meters when the mist is getting stronger at times).

There are some missions where you fight enemies in the middle of the night but those are only given to the industrial map. I hoped it happening for the other maps

No, but on the other hand, the AI allies can move around obstacles instead of being just stuck. It's no longer a hassle to make them climb a hill

DLCs introduce two new enemy types: the armored frogs (with upgraded weapons that have a wider range & spread, hurts harder) and the re-introduction of the Mega-Bomber from EDF2

Ranger

one of his passive abilities allows his missile launchers to multi lock all missiles onto one target.

Air Raider

>all of his call-ins that don't require credits, plus any deployables like turrets, defence enhancers and shield generators are now on cooldown instead of active reload.

This means that you don't have to stand around holding nothing to reload them now. You can use the other weapons or ride a vehicle while you wait for the cooldown to finish.

1) I remember that in EDF5 part of armor drops are shared between classes. Is it more or less tedious to raise armor as opposed to farming for each single class in 4.1? (assuming you want to raise armor for all classes)

2) Is the weapon upgrade system limited (as in, you have to allocate a limited number of total points between stats) or you can max every stat as long as you grind hard enough?

3) Can you reduce reload time for Ranger's grenade launchers? I just wanted to play as xplosive demolition man in 4.1 but it's not that viable in higher difficulties since GLs have an high reload time (and throwing grenades have an high windup and short throwing distance). Can you also increase shotguns' range?

4) Air Raider's turrets don't hurt him anymore now, what about your vehicles/other players/friendly NPCs? Is the flamethrower sentry the only one that deals self-damage, or is the rocket one still a bitch to have around?

5) Can Power/Guard/Plasma/Life Posts be upgraded, especially range-wise? I find their AoE quite underwhelming in 4.1 that I just use the gun counterparts.

Waiting for 5 to come out on PC, I'm at 68% online completion in 4.1 so I can wait for a little more.

Significantly less tedious. You get armor and equipment for all classes, but more for your active class. Not only that, but the amount needed for inferno is much lower. I went into Inferno with AR at 800, straight out of hard, and ended with about 2500. Of course, how much one needs for inferno largely depends on class, loadout, and skill.

The upgrade system is just that weapons drop with randomly selected stat levels and you take the best of what you get, up to the max levels. usually the stat maxes are something like 5 or 8. Just grind and pray.

Reload time can be improved.

Save for the low level flame turret, all flame and rocket turrets do self and friendly fire. Friendly fire works like it always has for everything else. Rocket turrets aren't as much of a bitch, but still a bitch.

Yes. Range can be improved as well.
